I think I'm just about ready to buy a Vectrix. I've visited the Vectrix website, downloaded the materials there, done a test drive, read through several of the topics/threads here, watched the YouTube videos on the Vectrix, etc.
At this point, my favorite questions are:
What more would I have asked about if I was smarter?
Should I wait a while for bigger incentive rebates, lower retail price, better batteries/range, etc.? And,
What do you wish you had known before you bought your Vectrix?
I will appreciate any help, suggestions, ideas to help me be a smarter buyer...
Can't help you there. I'm only marginally smarter than I was four months ago, and most of what I've learned has been just getting to know the bike's quirks.
Absolutely not. A lot of what we may see in the future, will depend on the future itself, and none of us have any control over that.
1.) Incentive rebates are politically based. No guarantees there. If you wait, you may be waiting for nothing.
2.) Retail prices are driven by supply and demand. WHEN gas goes back up, and demand becomes greater, so will the price of these bikes.
3.) If the bike fits your personal needs now, waiting for better battery technology is just waiting for higher prices with no real benefit. However, if you're needs will be pushing the limits of the bike, then waiting for increased range may be worth what you'll be paying more money for.
My only regret was not knowing that the controversial 2007 VIN numbers would not be registerable in my state (Alabama). There was no practical way to know that, and I was not aware before buying the bike that there even WAS a controversy over the VIN system. Had I known what I know now, I would have waited for a 2008. As it is, Alabama refuses to register my bike (even though I've already amassed 1200 miles of commuting on it ;-) We got sort of a "stay of execution" to give Vectrix and our DMV time to work things out, but it's looking like my only resolution is to trade the bike in for an 08. Tons of Kudos to VectrixUSA for their diligent work, and they have assured me that the issue will be resolved with the least amount of impact on me, but I would have preferred not to have this issue in the first place.
Your state (California?) already has many 2007 Vectrix (what is the plural of Vectrix? Vectrii? :-) registered so you're good to roll with whatever comes at the best price.
You're going to continue to see a LOT of technical second guessing on these forums. That's just the way forums go, but remember that it DOES come with a warranty, and a determined to succeed company, so just ride and enjoy. Any kinks WILL be worked out.
I've been off mine for nearly a week now, because of inclimate weather and my desire not to get sick, but even though gas prices are way down, I still miss riding the Vectrix! Even my Harley is beginning to think I don't love it anymore! HAHA!! :-)
I wish I had know, that only 1 of 2 battery fans were working as I wouldn't have fully charged the battery, thinking that everything is OK and I can leave the bike to charge itself on its own.
But because one of the battery fans wasn't working, one battery pack overheated on a full recharge from an empty battery. I couldn't have known, that one of them wasn't working, because I didn't have any reference Vectrix to compare it to and I heard fan(s) spinning.
It was like having a PC you can't open, you hear a PSU fan spinning, but you don't know if the CPU and GPU fans are spinning as well.
Unfortunately the thing I feared most has happened to me, that is, the care of the battery - with a NEW bike. No matter how caring I was about the battery, the thing was out of my hand. Now I will never know if that has somehow deteriorated my battery performance and/or capacity and what additional range could really be accomplished with my battery pack. I know, that different battery capacity cells must not be mixed, but if forward battery pack (overheated pack) lost it's capacity and the rear one didn't...
Unfortunately, that nagging feeling will never go away, if the battery is showing it's top performance or whether I have to live with a semi-performance battery because of the factory's fault and that I can't prove/measure anything which will get them to replace my battery pack, because I don't have access to it.
The battery may be unaffected, but I can't measure it, calming my concerns down.
Check the ride height carefully, if you are tall enough. You should have noticed during the test ride. It's not so much the height of the saddle as the width of it, that prevents short riders like myself from putting both feet on the ground. I am 174 cm, and you can't be much shorter to be able to ride it. I have lowered the rear suspension to lowest setting.
Then there are only two options to consider, one is the top case (I have none and don't miss it - the underseat storage is big enough), the other is the center stand, which is officially unavailable but might be possible to get anyway. I was certain I wanted one but I must say the side stand works very well. A center stand adds some weight and possibly affects ground clearance. Leave it out if you are not sure you need it, it can be fitted afterwards.

I'm 1.70 m and don't have a problem. I never put both feet on the ground even when I could with my old Vespa unless I was pushing it backwards for parking in tight spots. Now I use the reverse gear and the tips of my feet (like a ballerina) and have no problems.
In any case when buying ANY motorcycle or car it is imperative to go for a test drive, when at least these basic issues would be noted.
...yes, and do a 1 hour charge at the dealer, so you can see that the charging procedure works as it should and battery temperature is OK during charging. Make sure to listen for double fan whine under the front seat (they usually start spinning one after another).
Charger fan should blow wind under the front light and battery fans should blow air behind BOTH rear suspensions (each battery fan blows wind under it's own rear suspension).
This is a detail, but some people have mentioned that the latch on the glove box wasn't lined up right and made it difficult to close.
Also check that all the lights are working properly, some have had intermittent tail light/brake light issues.

Thanks to all of you for your experienced input. Really great stuff - for example - getting it charged at the dealership and listening for both fans to kick on, and feeling for the exhaust air from both fans, etc. Very practical, very useful stuff I would never have thought of on my own.

I wish I had known that the thing would be so darn fun to ride (much more fun than I realized when test riding), cause I would have bought it sooner.
I wish I had known that I needed a bigger extension cord cause my existing one got hot.
I wish I had known that the trunk wouldn't really hold a full face helmet, if you got a big head like me.
