What will happen if I charge my batteries w/o the BMS?

Hello,

I am working with eight 3.2 V LifePo cells in use with my 24V 500W Cyclone motor. I had to order a new BMS as well as a couple new cells, and I haven't been able to connect the BMS so the charger will charge the pack. I did charge the pack w/o the BMS once, but then realized I could damage the batteries this way. Thanks.

There is a lot more potential to damage the battery cells by discharging without the bms. Unless you have a very conservative low voltage cutoff in the controller. Charging without the bms is less likely to be a problem since lifepo4 is fairly tolerant of overcharging. Most likely the charger will shut off and go to constant voltage mode before any cell gets all that overcharged. Once on constant voltage, green light, the weak cells will still be charging, very slowly, so if left on the charger, they will eventually balance without the bms to some degree.

Be the pack leader.

OK, thanks Dogman, I will have to take my chances in damage by discharging w/o the BMS. I have ordered Ping batteries, with BMS, so I'll use those once I get them
