GIVI TOP CASE

I ordered the top case mounting bracket with Vectrix (for GIVI Top case).
I expected that there would be 1. a bracket, and 2. a topcase. Unfortunately it seems to be a bit more complicated.
The parts arrived without any diagram or mounting instructions AT ALL. Most of it is obvious, but not all.

The plateau doesn't look like it's ready to click-in a top case. It looks like another part needs to go between the black, frame mounted plateau and top case.
The plateau is 10" by 7" with a big O-shaped 6" by 3" hole in the middle. There are a number holes that may be for bolting on a topcase holding bracket.

Any experience with this ??

Thanks

Re: GIVI TOP CASE

Hi
The Vectrix Bracket Is for any box as you said it just has hole in it .Vectrix_004.jpg

The lower part is from Vectrix it replaces the center insert. Blue color match and the lower Black bracket.
The upper bracket is the un-lock from Givi.

If you look close at how givi box info reads , some come with the un-lock ,some with old stile and some with no backet.

I order the small givi from Vectix becouse it said the bracket was incuded .

Hope you get what you need . it is a great add . I can carry a cart full of grocerys between the box and under the seat.

Happy riding, Herb

Re: GIVI TOP CASE

I just installed the mounting kit as well as a GIVI case last weekend. As you noted, the mounting kit comes with a 'plateau' that gets bolted to the tail piece. The GIVI box does not sit directly on top of this piece. When you get the GIVI box, it will come with a mounting plate that you will bolt onto the Vectrix plateau. The GIVI box will then click into that second plate.

There are two issues I ran into:

1) The 'Z' brackets that came with the Vectrix kit did not fit properly.

The 'Z' brackets are heavy duty metal brackets that bolt onto the tail piece and then the plateau piece bolts onto the 'Z' bracket. One of the brackets did not line up properly with the bolt hole. I had to drill out the bottom hole on the bracket so I could slide it over about 1/2 and inch or so.

2) The bolts that come with the GIVI are not long enough to pass through the Vectrix plate.

My dealer noticed this when I bought the GIVI and the Vectrix kit. So he gave me some longer bolts.

Here are some pictures. I didn't want to take the bracket off so unfortunately, there are no pictures of the hard part which is how to mount the Vectrix kit.

Hi
As you can see in the pic I did not use the back two hole I moved my box up closer to the front and let the back hang out a little underneath . It seams to bouncy less this way and is close enuf to us as a back reat.

Yes, we had a similar problem with the "Z" brackets not aligning properly. Had to hammer one of the brackets about 1/4 in. to get the holes to align and allow the bolt to thread. One of the brackets has to be re-tapped with threads too... it took a lot of patience.

Re: GIVI TOP CASE

Howdy, I'm looking to get a top-case but I'm a bit confused...

I'm seeing from the current thread that there's a plastic adapter plate for a GIVI box and yet at the dealer (in my case Paris) they are talking about a metal bracket being redesign because the old one was too weak? They actually showed me a bunch of prototype brackets(looked like two bolts for under the seat and two for the rear deck)
I talked to some French Vectrix owners who pre-orders theirs with the scooter they are still waiting for it.

Anyone have with some input on this?
Thanks, Marsupi

I have what you describe, and I'm not aware of any issues of weakness or instability, The box is in daily use and does exaclty what it should... after you get used to the odd way it locks and is secured!

Re: GIVI TOP CASE

Hi,

I think I have the metal brackets mentioned earlier (Givi mounting bracket) and I have a Givi monokey base-plate.
I don't have further details, but I can supply some pictures:

Re: GIVI TOP CASE

Just an FYI. I called Dana DaCosta, New Vectrix Service Manager, after a few emails back and forth, and he is going to ship me the color matched part and bracket for my 2007 Red Vectrix for FREE!!! I was pretty shocked. I originally was going to buy it from Vectrix UK when they still had them in stock last year for about $250 US shipped. I'll post again when it arrives and I install it.

Now I need to find a Givi box!

Re: GIVI TOP CASE

Well, I finally got all the parts I needed from Vectrix and installed the mounting kit without issue. Fortunately, Dana sent the installation instructions and blowup diagram with the kit so it was not to difficult to get it on. Unfortunately they did not have the Vectrix Red color plate so he sent the flat black plate which looks sweet! Anyone else looking for the mounting plate should contact Dana as he will chip it directly to you!

Now I still need to find a good price on the Givi V46 box...it seems this place has the best prices in the states: http://www.sporttour.com/luggage/givi/case_v46.htm

Cheers!

any chance or scanning the installation instructions and maybe a part diagram? All I got was two brackets....I reckon there should be more and I definitely can't work out how to fit the thing.

Re: GIVI TOP CASE

Does it look similar to this Givi mount?

http://giviusa.com/caschi_borse_bauli_accessori.asp?CO_ID=9554&lang=en

This mount design was the most recent and still is as far as I know. Some of the earlier designs were prone to snapping the tailpiece especially with over the recommended 10kg load inside. I thought all in the UK had been updated but it appears we may have missed one or two. Apologies to those affected! And no I don't have any available.

Back to the mounting kit in question.... a few tips!!!

  1. Follow the instructions and use all the parts including replacing original bolts, washers, etc with the new ones supplied.
  2. Make sure the thin flat metal plates are inserted between the grabrail and tail section. Once the bolts are removed the grabrail will lift enough to slide these plates into place. Use the bolts or a Phillips screwdriver to align them with the holes! If you are uncomfortable doing this, then remove the 2 bolts at the front of the grabrail so it can be removed to fit these.
  3. To easily align the 'Z' brackets, use the new mounting bolt as a spacer between the bracket and the grabrail. Line the bolt up next to the upper bolt hole, hold the bracket against it and tighten the bottom bolt. The hole will be close enough to line up with the mounting bracket.
  4. Hold the thick round spacers in place with a drop of Super Glue, dab of silicone sealant or 2 sided tape, otherwise they will slide all over the place, especially if the bike is on the side stand. It is best to try and have the bike standing upright if possible to avoid this problem.
  5. The metal tubes which go into the tail section and mounting bracket need to have the intended holes reamed out first with a 10mm drill bit as the original holes are a tiny bit smaller than they should be. Just one pass through with the drill will do it and they will fit snuggly. A light tap with a hammer will seat them.
  6. One last thing... and I've done it... make sure the top plate the box attaches to is located the correct way before tightening it down! Two tabs at the front and one at the back.

Boy, maybe I should starting writing manuals for the Vectrix!!! LMAO

If anyone needs help just send me a message and I'll get back to you.

Cheers!!!

Re: GIVI TOP CASE

Doug,

Thanks for the tips...those would have been nice BEFORE I did the installation :) Actually it went fairly smooth. But beware that some of the succeeding instructions explain things that need to be done before the preceding instruction. As Doug pointed out above, the holes in the bracket you put the metal sleeves into needs to be drilled out first, but the instruction to do that is below the instruction that tells you to put the tubes in the hole! Anyway, I learned the hard way and wedged them so far in before pre drilling the hole that I had to use the Dremel to cut off the 1/8 inch or so that the metal tubes protruded after I wedged them in so far and could not remove them. The extra step worked perfectly and the bracket seated properly. Now I'm just waiting for the Givi box I ordered to arrive!

Let me know if anybody else has any questions about this installation.

Re: GIVI TOP CASE

This is a novel approach to mounting the Givi brackets! It looks like you leave the tail cover off after installation displaying a gaping hole for junk to collect in. The gauge of the metal used looks to be minimal to support the weight of the topbox and anything you put in it. I would also think the vibrations from the road whilst riding will cause the metal to crack at the folds or the welds. A gusset welded to each bracket would certainly improve their rigidity. I would return them for a refund and get the proper mounting kit. As they say, you get what you pay for!

Does anyone know anywhere in the UK I can get the proper Vectrix mounting bracket/fixings and a suitable Givi box?

Re: GIVI TOP CASE

I would try to contact Dana Decosta (ddecosta at vectrix.com). He is the new Vectrix service rep and was the one who shipped me all the parts (excluding the givi case) for FREE! I can't say he'll ship it for free but it sounded like he had plenty in stock and felt that they should have been given out when the bike was purchased new. I can give you his US phone number as well if you PM me.

Adam

PS my givi case should arrive today. With the kit Vectrix has you can get any Monolock or Monokey box from your local Givi retailer.

Re: GIVI TOP CASE

After 2 years of loyal service, the Givi scheme failed.
I should say that I recently moved to the Boston area and the suburban roads - surface is a nightmare, particularly for bicycles and small-wheel scoots.
Somewhere in the morning commute at roughly 45 mph, I lost the 46L GIVI. Thankfully nobody was following me closely- no dramas - it's a big tumbling object though!
The case was empty - I rarely load it while driving, mostly use it for my helmet and gloves when parked

The rearmost bolds are leaning on a thin plastic piece of vectrix body, and that piece broke first.
After that, it was only a matter of time (and bad bumps) until the front mount of the platform would break.

I called Decosta, and he kindly sent me a new platform at once - free of charge.
I bridged the plastic stumps with a strip of steel (on silentbocks) to replace the central bodypart between the grabrails, that was bolted to the platform.

Also, I fixed some straps/belts to the GIVI and attached them to the grabrails, so I wouldn't launch another projectile in rush traffic

After couple of days the strip of steel had broken off the stumps a bit further, and again the GIVI was supported only by the front bolts. I took it off for good.

I think this is a design flaw. I think the patform for a topcase should be supported by a solid metal structure.

A scoot without a topcase is a unhappy scoot

I aasume you are in Australia since those brackets are what I got with my Vectrix from the Oz distributor. Interesting when you compare the Aussie solution, a couple of pieces of galvanised steel, with the (over?)engineered bracket from Vectrix. Anyway it works ok with a bit of adjustment, the photos should explain. I fitted a standard Givi mounting plate, which involved drilling a couple of extra holes. And no Doug you do not have to lose the rear cover plate, it goes back in with a few 4 letter words. The long bolts are for the front bracket and replace the existing seat mounting screws. The large washers are for the rear bolts under the cover. I've had mine on for about a year and no problems so far, the steel seems strong enough, I am more concerened about the plastic? extension to the grab rail that it mounts to. Will keep you posted. Also i made a thick rubber washer to mount between the rear barcket and the bodywork.

good luck

In Melbourne.

Thanks very much for that. I'll give it a go. So, the front bracket...you remove the seat at the hinge and install the bracket and seat back with the longer bolts right?

Re: GIVI TOP CASE

Yes
Just undo the two allen head machine screws that attach the seat mount and replace with the new longer screws (at least they are stainless and don't rust). Then manouvre the bracket into place, (the slots do help) and then find someone w small hands to mount the givi plate, patience helps.... bracket sits on top of seat hinge.

Cheers

You are right to be worried by the plastic parts.
It broke while the Top Case was empty, only with the vibrations due to our french roads.

As i am still waiting for spare parts since last July, i have started my own "Do It Yourself" and will post some pictures.

The design of these genuine parts are nothing but silly.
I am using a Kappa case and it fits alright on the vectrix mounting mess.

Yes

Given that I wouldn't risk it, and I'll do a rethink on my mounting, I could try for the Genuine Vectrix part if i can find someone to supply one to NZ! Need a solution though cos I need the topbox.....

But I have realised that Cavalho had the same sort of failure with the Vectrix mount as it attaches through those two holes as well at the back......hmm a redsign needed i think.
