Top speed for me has been 46kph (as per speedo, not verified by gps or anything else) on a totally fresh charge. 46kph is just nudging into the red line on the speedo.
For range, I am routinely doing 44 mile round trips with no problem whatsoever. By the end of the 44 mile trip, my top speed has dropped to 40kph. I have run out of charge before but that was over the course of several days without charging. I would consider a maxed out mileage to be done in one day only. My personal record is 44 miles but only because I didn't really any further to go.
How does it do on hills? does it slow down quickly when encountering a grade? Did you take the pedals off? I can't imagine pedaling a 150 pound bike! The range sounds good, as many of these types of scooters/bikes have nearly useless ranges under 10 miles real world use.
Okay, so I received XB-700li (black and silver) a bit ago, but I just assembled it on Friday last. The mirrors were broken, the mirror screws don't match the holes, and the windshield was scratched. I have a help ticket into X-Treme. ;-)
Assembly was pretty easy. I put the pedals on only for a bit, then took them off and stowed them in the trunk until I get stopped by the fuzz.
I removed the decals.
The battery is nice and light! Compared to the XB-600, this is an easily manageable pack.
Performance is a bit crisper than the XB-600, it is better on the hills, for sure. Since I assembled it far away from where I used my (unmodified) XB-600, I can't directly compare it on the hills where the XB-600 previously failed. It may be a bit before I can bring it to the same proving grounds for that test. My impressions are that it may indeed pull it out.
Range? No ideas yet.
Speed? I forgot my GPS, so I could only have another vehicle follow me to test the speedometer. When I was pegged at about 55KPH on the speedometer, the following vehicle registered me at about 22-23MPH.
Handling? I'm not yet sure why, but it seems easier and more intuitive to handle than the XB-600. It wasn't just the weight... I can't put my finger on it.
Capacity? Yes, they say 350lbs. I decided to try myself and a friend, where together with gear, we topped the scales at 450lbs. We went about 16 miles, round trip. We only had to have one person get off at one steep (but short) hill. Pretty impressive. About 4 miles into it, I checked the tire temp, and the motor temp, both were fine.
I have not yet tried (or fixed) the seat post issue. That is low on my list.
Verdict? So far, I like it a lot. I think better tires are in order, and I will nose around a bit for better speed data and possibly a way to improve it.
Oh, I also tried it on some bike/walking trails and I got a lot of stares and comments of, "Is that a motorcycle?!?" In this state, electric assist bicycles are permitted everywhere a bike is, except a sidewalk. I'm feeling a little embarrassed about having to explain this a lot, so I'm having some stickers made up to ameliorate the issue for some people. Feel free to pirate my sicker, or order one here: http://www.cafepress.com/FEDREGELECBIKE
I have had my Black/Silver 700Li since August 6th and have driven it exclusively to work (10 miles round trip)and errands, shopping, etc. My top speed has been 22 mph and it's just fast enough to catch-up with the SUV s, Land-Hogs and other gas guzzlers at the next red light.
I also removed most of the stickers and ordered a rear plate for public "educational purposes" and the Modesto, CA police haven't bothered me or given me a second look. I can't say the same for the driving public. You can custom order one from James at marketwizard1 .at. cox dot net. It ran around $14.00.
I get lots of stares, thumbs up and smiles which I enjoy.
I took off the pedals as they dragged the street when I leaned into corners. So far I am happy with the bike. I made the modification to the plug-in under the seat which works superbly. I decided to leave the turn-signal beeping alone and love the looks from people wondering what it is.
Hello Everyone,
I live about 15 minutes from benmart, what a coincidence. I also got my Bike at the beginning of August. Blue and Silver. I installed a bike speedometer for testing purposes. My maximum speed has been 23 MPH with a fully charged battery. Average speed is about 21 MPH. Fast enough to get from point A to point B and slow enough not to get in trouble.
Since the bike speedometer has an odometer, I am happy to tell you that I have 200 trouble free total miles in my eBike.
I ride it every day for my daily transportation needs. I weigh 180 lbs and my wife weighs 130. We ride together all the time with no performance degradation. I pick up my niece from school everyday too. We get all kinds of stares. The school's parking lot gets full of Big SUVs and gas guzzlers. I am sure they envy us because I just come in and out and do not worry about the horrible traffic jam all those Big vehicles create.
My wife and I go to the store often. We can fit three plastic groceries bags inside the bike rear trunk and under the seat. I even load a 5 gallon water bottle between my feet on the floor board. I do not have the need to travel long distances with my bike. The farthest I have gone is 40 miles round trip. The bike still read half of charge left. I have not have any trouble with my town's police. I kept the pedal arms on with out the actual pedal. I hit my shin one time and that was enough to make me want to remove the pedals. I have the pedals with the bike in case the police ever asks. I do not mind the turn signal noise. That to me is a safety feature. I park my bike in front of every business and store I go to. No one has ever complained. I no longer worry about parking. I can ever park closer than handicap licensed people. The bike comes with an easy to use Bike Alarm and the steering is lockable. When the alarm is on, if some one moves the bike it a bit, it will emit a very uncomfortable noise because of the alarm shock sensor.
I like the bike so much that I became a dealer in my area. I have gotten several people wanting to buy one of theses bikes. Unfortunately demand has been so high that the first bikes shipment sold right away. Seems like we wont see more of these bikes for several days.
Safety is very important to me too. I wear a helmet all the time. I am extra careful with traffic. We are not used to share the road with bicycles and motor bikes yet. The big gas guzzlers some times have terrible view of the road and or they drive carelessly. I am not afraid to use my noisy turn signal or my annoying horn. We have to make sure they are aware we are here.
When I ride at night I wear one of those bright colored vests with reflecting strips all over. That way they can see me from far away. You can get those vests from any hardware store. Do not trust car drivers, always look ahead and plan a scape route.
I have so many experiments I want to do with this bike. For starters I want to install High output LED lighting. I found the Perfect LED lamps for the bike. Now I just need to figure out how to convert the 48 volts to 12 volts with a resistor.
I will find a more powerful controller that will allow me to drive faster than 22 MPH for those times when faster is safer.
I also want to put together two of these bikes side by side and create a light neighborhood vehicle. I can only imagine all the possibilities with this great eBike.
Do not hesitate to get one of these bikes, you will be very happy. If you get it from me even better.
Hey all, if you are having issues with the pedals dragging/catching shins but need to have them on to please the boys in blue in your community, pedals from folding bicycles are a good bet. Dahon Cycles (whom I used to deal with in the bike business) make a quality pedal, but you can get cheapo plastic versions too for half this price -- here's a link:
Has anyone tried these pedals? I was looking at mine and there is a slight offset to the pedal to clear the body panels. The offset is what makes the pedals almost useless but I don't see how the pedals referenced above would work.
Later.
Thom
I just did a upgrade for a customer on a 700Li by installing a auto sensing hi-amp controller, a 40amp 16v Li-ion battery for a total of 64v and what adifferance in both power and speed. Had to install a new 75v DC-DC converter and change the lights and horn to 12v. Used some LED lights instead of the incadesant as they are much brighter. I was going to post a picture, but there isnt much to show as everything is hidden. If anyone wants to know how I did this, email me at cruisin [at] live.com
Hi! Even though the dates on these postings are 2007 - 2008, I'd like to hear how the XB-700Li is holding up. We bought one and right off we had to send the battery back for replacement. They received it June 22 and it's now July 17 and we're still waiting. Apparently they are waiting for the company in China to send them a new battery (with updated board on it?). So, do you all think the wait will still be worth it? I haven't found anything else which looks like this bike, or even compares to it. Please...tell me it'll be worth it. Thanks~
Hi there. I am in the same exact boat as you are with waiting for some Chinese company to send our replacement batteries with updated circuit boards in them.
In my opinion, the bike is worth it. I rode mine for over 1000 miles before the unknown part gave out. I rode in the freezing cold and in the pouring rain. Neither of which affected the performance whatsoever. So, hopefully, when that slow boat from China gets here with our battery packs, we will be able to enjoy riding again. Hopefully sooner than later, as mine is my commuter vehicle.
I bought a bike from you and if you read my other post you will see I am not happy. It died after two weeks was told to return battery when I opened box found blown fuse replaced it powered up fine. Two weks later bike dies at intersection twice(danger). Good news-unplug and replug battery powers up Bad news-don't know why or how long this fix will last. This hapened again this am as I was leaving my house. Tech support is a joke so far. I wish I had paid the $250 for satisfaction guarantee--you would be getting it back

Thanks for the report OMP,
Is that 44 mile round trip by the odometer? or by a known route?
say, what color is your XB-700Li;
I got the impression they shipped black units, not blue/silver or black/silver?
Ross
That is 44 miles according to google maps. There is no odometer on the bike.
My bike is blue and silver.
I received mine in black and silver. Took those decals off right away...

Ben and everyone else,
Thanks for the reports and photos!
Ben,
what is that text on your 'trunk' ?
What's it say?
Is that stock or something you added?
