scooterboy converting a tractor

Hey guys,
Necessity is the mother of invention. A few years ago i needed a way to get to work in philly and i took a razor e-300 to 36v, 750 motor, and 100amp controller------sweet reliable transport.

Well now my tractor ICE died, and i'm researching conversion. A few questions:

I would like to run the drive and the deck off one motor. Is this feasible? The current ICE setup has the vert driveshaft into an electric clutch (pulley)for drive and another pulley for deck belt. If i get a powerful enough setup, a one motor sitiation is optimal.

ICE runs at approx 3200rpm. and is 25hp, but i dont need nearly that power. I've cut my hills with a 15hp ICE-no prob.

Here's a possible motor: link

how do i calculated HP?

Other options are golf cart motors, 3-7hp, but more$$, and splined shafts.

Anyone convert a tractor for cutting, not just hauling?

Armando has a simliar motor but not for cutting http://www.evalbum.com/840

This is an etek (which would be awesome) but $$$ http://www.evalbum.com/2089

thank you!!!

Re: scooterboy converting a tractor

oh yeah. i'd run 4 12v SLA.

this project needs torque NOT high speed.

.4 acres, hills, less than hour cutting time (now) How many amo hours do i need?

I'm thinking i dont need a controller. Just run motor at full and let the drive clutch do the work. This is how ICE tractor engines run. Otherwise i'd be controlling the foot brake&clutch AND a throttle (controller) at the same time, and would crash into my wifes flower beds (dead man)

750 watts == 1 hp

The motor you linked to is therefore 1.333333 hp, right? Doesn't sound like the one you linked will be enough.

If you want all the math and so forth behind the power, I highly recommend this book: Build Your Own Electric Vehicle by Bob Brant

yes, i think it is too weak. Armando just emailed me and said i would need 5HP+ to drive and cut the tall grass.

Is an etek have controllable rpms, or just voltage control?

Would something like this have some good torque? link

anyone ever mounted a golf cart motor for EV?
