I tried this upgrade from outolunchcruisin [at] gmail.com on a Baja 500 and man what a differance. Its like going from a under powered scooter to a motorcycle. The additionl power is really appreciated as I live in the hills. Couldnt use it before, but now its like I can go where the car goes, and just as fast. I spoke with this guy yesterday. Although we didn't get into price he told me that he did these modifications on his bike and it does 45mph! I didn't have much time to talk to him, but he said to get really specific on what you want and he will give you a quote. Something to look into! I wonder how complicated it is to do this. I have an XB-600. Can you imagine going 45 on this. Scary, but fun!

Here is a picture of the 1500Watt motor that replaced the 500Watt running on 64V and controller/Dc-Dc converter upgrade.
Anybody have any more info on this upgrade? I've tried e mailing outolunchcruisin twice for info but haven't recieved any response.

Nice mods I'll admit, but for those of us who have to stay within the legal specs for non licensing, well it wouldn't be advisable. In my opinion it also wouldn't be advisable due to the fact that I don't think that XB series would hold up very long physically at higher rates of speed due to the cheaply made parts. Yes, I am an XB-700Li owner with 1000 miles on it but I still tend to think that they weren't designed to due 35+ mph.

Good point...I think the frame is probably ok. I have seen the XB 508 sold with a faster motor but it also comes with better disk brakes on the front, full metal brake levers, and larger tires.
So if you are thinking abou this type of upgrade its probably a good idea to upgrade the braking system, tires and even shocks.
The good part is that some of these upgrades, like better brake levers, brake shoes and shocks are very cheap. Metal brake levers can be had for $12, better brake shoes can be anywhere from $11 to $21.
I even like the idea of improving the aerodynamics with windshields.
I am really interested in hearing about people's experiences with different aftermarket parts.
Motors, controllers and batteries are only part of the process of making these little machines as good as they can be.
Having done the Shunt mod and upping my battery pack voltage to 60 Volts, I'm still not satisfied with the performance of my XB500. The Shunt mod was great for increasing my hill-climbing ability. I went from just barely making it up an 8% grade to ascending the same hill without losing but about 15% of my original speed.
Before adding the extra 12 Volts to my battery pack, my top speed on flat ground, no wind, was just under 18 MPH. With the extra voltage, my top speed is now around 23 MPH when the battery is fully charged, and about 21 MPH after a 10 mile drive.
I still need more speed. I cannot drive on city streets without pi****g off the SUV drivers. Michigan allows a maximum speed of 30 MPH for mopeds, which is how my bike is registered. This Summer, i'm going to try switching to a Kelly KBS72051 controller. http://www.kellycontroller.com/mot/KBS.html
Kelly just started offering these, and their price is about $140 with shipping. It's a programmable controller, and I'm hoping that I can get the speed and accelleration that I need to keep up with city traffic, at least to the extent allowed by Michigan law. I just received the controller this week, and am currently setting up to program the unit. I'll keep everyone here posted on my findings. If anyone else has used these Kelly Controllers, I hope you will post your experience here. It would certainly be helpful.

My first worry would be the front brakes.
My second worry would be frame strength.
Very cool, but I didn't see how much the batteries cost? The best I found was $950 shipped! :-(
