750 Schwinn electric Scooter

HI, can anyone advise me what battery to buy for my daughters scooter? I think this may be part of her problem. I see it has 2 12v 15ah/ 20 HR batteries. I would like to not spend as much as scooter cost to replace these, but would like something that would last longer and be more dependable. any suggestions? text me at 412-780-5998 or call or email me at lippyscollectables [at] juno.com

thanks, JIM

Re: 750 Schwinn electric Scooter

Jim,

15Ah batteries will be tougher to find. A 12Ah has the same case size and will be easier to locate. I'd try calling local battery suppliers and ask for a 12V 12Ah SLA (and preferably one that is "deep cycle"). You want to shy away from ones that say their use is for UPS backup and emergency lighting.

www.electricmotorsport.com sells B&B Batteries. You would spend over $100 to replace your two. Less expensive ones are available from several online sources.

Longer life and more dependability are also a function of how well you care for your batteries. Don't discharge them below 50%, and always recharge immediately following a ride. Don't leave the charger on for more than 24 hours. Top-off charge weekly if not in use. Even better, charge each battery inidividually with a 12V car charger at no more than 3-4 Amps. Even if you did that only periodically, it would reduce the imbalance between the two and help lengthen their useful life.

How often and how far does your daughter ride this scooter?

not riding that often, and the batteries are only about 6 months old. I think actual date on battery is 06/07. i am going to have the batteries checked out. I have been using all the correct procedueres for charging, etc. this is the third scooter we have had, and actually only the first one with this problem.. thanks, JIM
