Re: Help with new Board

Many of us just lurk the forum... I have posted questions in the past and had difficulty getting help. I haven't seen that board before - What are its specs???

I currently have a Urbanmover UM70 - you can find a video on youtube of it. It is currently dead - and even when I do get it fixed, I have no idea whether or not the battery will work. Here is to hoping.

Let us know more about the board when you get it.

Re: Help with new Board

Hey,
There are a few board people here..
The Rincon is a knock off of an Altered or Eskake, I talked to the on the phone last Friday, and ordered a new battery box and rc receiver board, I got them in the mail yesterday, the rc board is an exact match, but i will need to move the front mounts for the battery box to work, will let everyone know when it is done, It is 36volt 600watt, So it should move pretty good, would like to go lithium if I get it running good, will let you know....

Re: Help with new Board

Simple modification, a couple more holes, my board looks like swiss cheese, but runs like a champ. Still waiting for my new Rokit Science board. Have been emailing the guys at Elektroskate, looks like a pretty nice board also. They have an egg shaped remote (not real impressed with that) but they are going to offer a pistol grip remote in about six weeks. Might try their board also. I think I'm addicted!!!!!!!

Re: Help with new Board

Ya,
My old board has a ton of holes in it also, was going to try not to have extra holes in new one, oh well who cares as long as it runs well, I have been working all weekend at my daughters house, So I hope to get the Rincon board going some time this week, Elektroskate is on of my favorite boards, Would like to have one of there off road boards, it goes 30mph, way cool, but will have to wait for now,I own a small construction co. in Florida and haven't got a paycheck in 18 months, but things are picking up a little, Well I will keep everyone informed on the Rincon board....

Re: Help with new Board

Hope you get the Rincon board on the road soon. Well, I ordered a board from Elektroskate, should get it in about a week. Also, I still have the Rokit Science board on order. I went from no boards about three months ago to now I'll have three boards, bet I'll be the most popular guy in the neighborhood. Well, I know I'll have a lot more friends.
Pictures and reviews soon.

Re: Help with new Board

Glad to see everyone making progress. Following your excellent examples - I completely ripped apart my UM70 today. I learned a couple of really good bits of information. 1st, my 320 watt electric motor is still good - directly connecting it to the battery allows it to run... Which also means my batteries can at least still hold some charge. Secondly, I found out that the logic board has its own in-line fuse (in addition to the in-line fuse coming from the battery and accessible from the outer motor assembly). The fuse located at the internal in-line fuse was burnt - which is a good thing (assuming that is the issue).

I am now at (3) possibilities.

1 - bad fuse, which is an easy fix.
2 - bad controller, which would be an annoying fix, but not all that difficult.
3 - bad logic board, which would really be annoying - would have to find a replacement or go totally new.

Either way - I've made more progress today than I have in the entire time that it has been down. Thanks for providing some motivation!!!

Post up pics when you all have the chance.

Re: Help with new Board

Wow,
A few weeks ago not much activity here, now all kinds of things going on..First planner 1957, I am jealous, A new Elektroskate on the way, Too cool, they will do 0-25 in like 4 seconds, Wow better hang on, Would like to hear a review on there boards, they are suppose to be really good, A few pic would be cool too...
And aboveliquidice I hope you get you UM70 up and running, I have had my board apart a bunch of times you should have know problems, they are not too hard to work on, A few internal pics would be cool, anyway keep us posted...
As for myself, hopefully I have the rest of the week off, So after I clean the pool in the morning, and fix the window in my Trabant (it is stuck in the down position) I can work on my board, will keep everyone posted....

Re: Help with new Board

Well, Elektroskate will be delivered tomorrow morning. I'll put a good charge on it and should be riding in tomorrow evening. I'll post an update later in the evening. Still have the Rokit Science board on order, that should be here (hopefully) in about another week. Suppose to have the same power as the Elektroskate plus they are shipping slick wheels with it and it has the pistol grip remote. The Elektroskate has an egg (oval) shape remote. Suppose to be easy to get used to. They will be offering a pistol grip remote in a few weeks. Also, they will be offering slick (softer compound) wheels in a couple of weeks. Since I have a pistol grip remote and softer wheels on my Exkate(love the softer wheels, they roll over anything), I'll probably upgrade to both of them. Now the downfall of ordering a board from the UK. With the current currency exchange (we all know how weak the dollar is), the board cost me a little over a thousand (OUCH). Oh well, you can't take it with you.

Check with you guys later.

Re: Help with new Board

Gents,

I have a working Electric Mountainboard!!! The issue was likely a combo of problems - A short / frayed wire and the internal fuse being blown. I fixed both issues - and she is running like a champ. Still can't push up serious inclines - The 320 watt motor leaves a lot to be desired. I didn't ride much, as the tires were nearly flat and I haven't a bike pump to put air in the tires... I'll work on that after work tomorrow.

Poolman - I had to look up what a Trabant was - very nice. Let us know what progress you make.

Planner - Softer wheels definitely make things smoother. Does the e-skate or rincon have any form of suspension???

Here is a pic of the surgery on the UM70 - I'll post a "back-in-one-piece" pic tomorrow...

From Drop Box

Click on the thumbnail for bigger pic. Thanks again for all of the inspiration. Amazing what can be accomplished by simply ripping something apart and seeing what can be fixed. The question now - What am I going to do about my underpowered 320 watt motor???

Re: Help with new Board

Just thinking about my under-powered motor... How hard would it be to make a mount for something like this: http://nycewheels.com/currie-scooter-motor-600.html

Doesn't look like getting a new motor costs too much - Having only 24 volts may be a limiting factor though. What do you guys think?

Re: Help with new Board

O.K.
Well the pool is clean, And the Rincon is running, Took a while to get the battery box on, I think the original box was different, but with a drill and a few extra screws, all is good, and WOW that whole pistol grip remote thing is very nice, no wires, very light a what mobility, and just push it forwards and it stops, AMAZING...
Now the bad news, I think the batteries sat to long, it's been about 3 weeks since I charged them up and they didn't last any time at all, went around the block once and started to loose speed, So I am not sure, By the third time around the block, they were about dead, So I am charging them now and will have to see, they are 12v 10ah, So I can get 3 new ones for about $90.00 with shipping, Or I can go lithium for about $300.00, But they say 400w max and my motor is 600w So any suggestions ??
aboveliquidice very cool looking board, not sure about the motor wattage problem, the Rincon has a 600w motor and is not any faster than my old board, that has a 200w motor in it, but the week batteries may have something to do with that, will see when I get new batteries...
And planner did you ride the new board yet?? Can't wait to hear how fast that Elektroskate is, let us know...
And I did get the window fixed in my Trabant, Wish all my vehicles were as simple as it is to work on, a little tape and some wire will just about fix anything on that car, I will upload a pic, And will see what happens with my batteries....trabant.JPG

Re: Help with new Board

Hey Poolman,

Glad to hear you got your board up and running. What a blast huh. Sorry to hear about your batteries. From what I understand (and I could be wrong), with lead acid batteries they cannot just sit without a charger on them, they will slowly lose their charge and once they are fully discharge they will not come back. I keep my charger on board 24/7. Got back a little while ago for a few mile ride on my Elektroskate, that thing is scary fast. Had one of my friends on my Exkate, I just smoked him. It is really nice board, well made. The only couple things I would change on it are the wheels, they work fine but are the semi-offroad and are noisy and the remote. I don't care for the oval remote. It is controlled by pushing buttons. The more times you push the throttle button the faster you go. If you hold it down for more than one second it goes straight to full throttle. Then you have another button to slow down, same routine. Once you start to slow down you have to start pushing the throttle button all over again. Not very efficient. You have another button for the brake, this button is really touchy. It will actually lock up the wheel. Thankfully they will be offering both the pistol grip remote and slick wheels shortly. You now know how well the pistol grip remote works. Other than that, I would highly recommend the board, that is if you like to scare the you know what out of you. I'll post some pics when I get a chance. I bet you can't wait to get you battery issue resolved, that board will be a blast. Let me know how it runs when you get them changed out.

Well, time to finish watching the Lakers.

See ya,

Heading to the local gas station today to put air in the tires... cannot wait to get a full ride on her :-)

Glad to hear that your projects are progressing so well. I have a LOT more to learn concerning this hobby - but my interests have definitely been sparked again.

Re: Help with new Board

Hey,
Glad to here Elektroskate is fast, Did tou get the blue one with the nobbie looking tires ??
I will have to decide on the batteries in the next few days, I am doing a test with my old board to see how many miles I can put on it before a charge, as of right now it has 10 on it, 5 for two nights in a row, Here in Florida we go out late around 7:30pm or it is too hot, Would love to have an Elektroskate, Will start saving now, and by the time I have the money they should have the trigger remote....
aboveliquidice glad to hear you are getting it to this, I grew up in Florida in the late 70s an was always either surlfing or skateboarding, But then I got married and had a daughter, So all I did was work, Now I have a lot of time and been doing more surfing, and boarding....

Re: Help with new Board

Hey pool - I grew up in Orlando, FL - I stayed until graduation, when I enlisted. Service and school have kept me away - but I am likely moving back after grad school rotations are done...

I was able to go to a local park today and ride some trails - The board was able to hit all of the trails - with no real sign of the battery dropping off. Total time on the board was maybe an hour. How are you guys tracking how far you are riding? GPS?

Re: Help with new Board

Hey,
Growing up in Florida was cool, now the economy sucks, but still good for outdoor fun, a little hot in summer...
I keep track of miles with my wife's odometer on her bike, I have them on all our bikes,( 8 which is way to many) and they are pretty accurate....
My daughter dated a guy that was in the Marines for a few years, and moved to Jacksonville NC, Didn't work out and she moved back, but what a great place to surf. we went up once a month....
Still playing with batteries, I my take the ones out of my other board which are 12v 12ah they work good in the other board, I have 10 miles on them now and today will go for another 5 mile ride, that would make 15 miles on one charge, but 5 miles at a time, don't know if I can go 15 miles all at once, I will let you guys know how it works out.....

Re: Help with new Board

Hey,
Just a quick note, I put 5 more miles on my modified G1, that is a total of 15 miles and it still seems to have a lot of power left, will try to kill batteries today...
And I found two good 12v 10ah batteries in my garage with all my scooter parts, I am going to try to put them in the Rincon with one old one and see what happens....
I am also bidding on a mountainboard on Ebay, Got this idea that I will build a three wheel mountainboard, but here is the cool part, I will use my razor 300, cut off the front, extend the battery box, get a 48v controller, and run 48v through the 24v motor, which will certainly shorten it's life, but should have tons of off road power

Re: Help with new Board

Hey Poolman,

Looks like you have a few projects on your hands. Good luck with them, keep us informed on progress. My Exkate will probably go between 10 to 12 miles. Now on to the Elektroskate. I had it out on Friday and decided to see how it climbed hills. Start blasting up the street and it started kind of cutting out. Came home, put it on the charger and decided I would try it Saturday morning to see what would happen. Went to turn the board on and no light. Took the battery off and checked fuses (both good). I emailed Andrew from Elektoskate and he thinks the battery pack is locked out (LiPo batteries). He gave me a solution but unfortunately it didn't work. So I have a dead board right now. Good thing I still have the Exkate while tring to figure out a solution. Andrew from Elektroskate is a really nice guy and responds to my emails right away. It's too bad that there is about an 8 or 9 hour time difference, makes it a little harder to communicate. Anybody on this site have any idea what the problem might be? I'm not familiar with the LiPo batteries and battery management systems at all.

Re: Help with new Board

Planner,
That sucks, I am sure they will take care of the problem, but how disappointed you must be, It kinda sounds like my luck...
Well it is very hot here so won't go out till around 7:30pm to try and see how much more I can get out of the battery in the G1, I am very happy with those batteries, the company is in Jacksonville Fl. I will have to look up the name and post it...
And I rode a Rip-Stick today in Sports Authority, a little tricky getting started, but kinda cool, may pick up one, they were on sale for $65.00....

Re: Help with new Board

Well, got my board running again. I decided to take the battery pack off and look into it a little further. I partially unplugged the fuse on positive side of the battery pack, put my meter on it and then did a voltage reading on the negative side of the BMS (the lead to the controller). I had 39 volts. Plugged everything back in and had 39 volts on the plug that feeds the controller (has nothing before). Somehow the BMS reset (unlocked). Don't know what I did but it works. I've got it on the charger, I want to get a good charge and make sure all the cells are balanced. I'm going to test it after work today. I'll give you guys an update later on.

Re: Help with new Board

Glad to hear you are up and running...
It has been very hot here, haven't had the board out in a few days, Will go today, The G1 back tire is getting bad, noticed it the last time I rode it, I will put the original back on it for now, it is a lot wider, but not as big in diameter, so it goes a little slower, found one at electricscooterparts.com, will order one later...

Re: Help with new Board

No not yet, It's kinda funny, the first time I charged it, Only went around the block once and it started to loose speed, but the last time I charge it, I rode it to Publix and back, which is about three mile and it seemed to be fine, Although my modified G1 is faster, I need to take the G1 apart and see if the 12v 12ah batteries will fit, if not I will just order three 12v 10ah batteries, Not going to go lithium, to much money to put in a cheaper board, I saw this on Ebay, it's called the magic wheel, kinda cool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v96i8ldtdbE

Re: Help with new Board

Is the G1 more fun to ride than the Rincon? That magic wheel is pretty bizarre, looks like too much work. I guess I'm getting lazy since the electric skateboards came around. Took my Elektroskate out this afternoon, seems to run fine. Tried some hills and didn't have the cut out problem. Now if I could get the new slick wheels and remote I would be happy.

Re: Help with new Board

Glad to hear the board is working fine, good thing you didn't have to send it back, that's usually a hassle...
The G1 handle better than the Rincon, not sure why, The G1 has taller but thinner wheels, maybe just that I have rode the G1 more, but when turning at high speed the Rincon seems to slide a little, but the G1 hugs the road.....

Re: Help with new Board

Andrew from Elektroskate was going to send me a new battery management system if I couldn't figure out the problem. He warranties the electronics for one year. The good thing is with only the batteries, BMS, controller, motor and remote as the electronics it should be pretty easy to diagnose a problem and he stocks everything, I should be able to just send for the parts, not have to send the board back. It looks like the Rincon board has the hard urethane wheels (like the ones that came on my Exkate), they slide pretty easy. That can be fun sometimes, at least when you want to slide.

Yep,
Took the Rincon today, after a rain, not wet, but a little damp, slid around pretty good, was kinda fun, the batteries seem to be O.K., but didn't go real far, still not as much power or speed as the G1, Ordered a pair of knock off Freeline Skates today, was going to get a Ripstick but everyone has a Ripstick, So wanted to be different, The only bad thing is they take a few weeks to get here.....freeline-skates.jpg

Got to be careful around water, the boards don't like it very much. What are the free line skates?
