Be careful Where You Park

I just got my 600 back. It was stolen from a Burger King parking lot. I always use my cable lock at Walmart, but didn't at BK. It was stolen and damaged, just cosmetic, but still. the steering column was locked but the baste***s still tried to walk off with it.
Use a cable lock. and lock your bike up.
My alarm remote battery was dead so , no alarm set. A 2 buck battery could have saved me the trouble. Not to mention my garage remote was in my trunk, having to reprogram the remote and door opener so the bast**ds could not rape me further.

Lock your bike. do not think locking the steering is enough.
Some dumb a$$ punk with no education or parental oversight will steal your stuff because they just don't give a f

That stinks.

Point taken. I watched a young woman come up to the local supermarket and spend several minutes hauling a massive chain out of the "trunk" and locking it up. She wasn't paranoid.

I had a similar experience. For the first 3 months I kept my back round the back of the house, but it was somewhat in the way so I decided to start keeping it on the drive and so made a canopy for the front of the garage. It was there for two weeks before some youths stole it on friday night. It was only locked with the steering lock, which it turns out is pretty easy to defeat with brute force.

Fortunately they only got it about 100m away as they were clearly unable to get it going. So I got it back with a lot of smashed plastic (seat, bucket, mirrors, front, glove-box, grips, instruments). http://wookware.org/pics/moped/index.html

I think I was saved by the brake-switches that disable the controller: yanking the bars pulled out one of the brake switches so now there was no easy way to make it go. Pity they smashed up so many bits. Suprisingly all that minor damage meant that it was declared a write-off, which seemed silly as I was still using it to go to work. So I bought the salvage and fixed it up (and I'm keeping it round the back again).

So, yes, don't rely on your steering lock - they aren't much kop. And out-of-sight is definately out-of-mind (it's not generally locked round the back, but has been fine so far (1 year)). (This is Cambridge, UK).

Aha, i'm in Norfolk! Near Norwich. Got my bike imported from a guy in Peterborough. I don't even cable lock my bike, which is silly. I will do from now on however. (:
