Fixing brake light

Hi, me again. Spot the new EVT owner!!

I've just realised that my brake light doesn't work...am I right in thinking that the brake light is the light in the middle? If so what are the other two smaller sockets either side for ???

If it is the middle bulb how do I get it to function properly? I'm, new to scooters and I'm guessing (as the light is constantly on) that there are affectively 2 lights in the bulb and the other light kicks in when braking?

Thanks for any help - I'm really lost here! :(

Re: Fixing brake light

hi is the break light in the right way .
as if my memory serve me right the bulb will have a filiment for the rear .
side light and the other filerment is for .
break light .
well the will be one tiny nipple at each side of the bulb ?
one sould be slightley lower than the other .
withe the bulb out .look in the bulb holder and there should be two
cuts in the metal tube one slightley deaper than the other? and they are j saperd at the ends this .
is to hold the bulb in propley but .
if forced in the wrong way . the break light will stay on .
.if this probblem parsiseds then you can run a feed from the break leaver .
to the rear bulb quick simple fix .have fun. kev

Re: Fixing brake light

Thanks Kev

Just checked and there are indeed 2 filaments in the bulb but I can't get the upper one to work at all. How do I check that it's connected properly to the brake levers? Or fix it?

What are the bulb sockets either side used for??!

Thanks

Re: Fixing brake light

Btw

The back/brake light only stays on if I turn the lights on when driving at night.

Re: Fixing brake light

hi the filament that stays on is it the smaller/shorter one ?.
as this is the side light and should stay on at night time .
and doesn't draw as much currant as the larger longer filament this is much brighter as is break light and should come on .
when the break leaver is pulled either one left or right.
first things first you need to check the fillements that theres no breakes in the fine wire filerments ???????????
then its easy the break lever check it with a volt meter or pull both wires off one side i/e break lever has a mico swich that two
wires conect to and conect the two wires that are close together conect them together .
if faulty swich will work ?? have fun kev.

Re: Fixing brake light

Hi Kev

I don't have a volt meter...could you give me some instructions on how to check that the wires are connecting properly. I'm keen to learn but a novice when it comes to electronics.

Thanks

Re: Fixing brake light

hi 1
is the break light staying on.?
2 . is the rear tail light staying on ?
3 have you looked at the bulb i/e have you had it out to have a
goog look at it as may be a little break in the fillament
that would be classed as a break..kev

Re: Fixing brake light

No, no break in filament. The bottom filament works when I turn headlight switch on (obviously as well as the headlight itself) but the top filament does not work at all when I squeeze the brakes on both sides.

Re: Fixing brake light

Hi all

So, I had a look inside the main board and discovered that the brake light cables have been disconnected for some reason!! See the photos attached.left brake.JPG right brake.JPGI found them wrapped in duck tape.

The casing on the right brake lever is slightly broken - although I can't imagine it would affect anything...I tried connecting them but the brake light still doesn't work.
Question is: What do I do now? I have zero experience in electronics so the process of elimination is very difficult for me.

Thanks in advance for any help - I'm desperate here! :(

Re: Fixing brake light

The brake wires might be disconnected because they are wrongly or accidently connected to ground at or near the bulb end.

In any case, they were probably disconnected for a reason, like a defective brake-lever switch. Just connecting and trying them could blow out something else, so it is best to locate the problem FIRST.

Electrical problems are VERY difficult to troubleshoot without a volt-ohm (VOM) meter. Either get one ($3 at Harbor Freight, more at Radio Shack) and learn to use it, or find someone who has a meter and the knowledge, and is willing to help you.

You might examine the 3-wire connections at (and near) each of the tail/brake light sockets.

Are there 3 t/b light sockets (all wired in parallel), or just one?

Re: Fixing brake light

Thanks gary - That's what I find strange. I have one socket in the middle at the rear for the main back light which apparently switches to the upper filament when you squeeze the brake levers. However, I also have 2 unused sockets either side (smaller). The guy at my local garage told me that sometimes Chinese bikes come like this as they use the two sockets either side for their indicaters, but in the US and Europe it's forbidden and we have to have the traditional protruding orange ones.

Which 3 wires do you mean? The ones connected to the main light in the middle at the back?

Sorry, I realise this must be painful for you but I really do appreciate the help.
