XM-5000 Range Real World Record

I set a record on my XM-5000 like scooter on 2 juli 2009.

The XM-5000 scooter drove 87,8 Km the last few Km's the red led kept flashing!

Below are my range and power consumption figures.
I normally commute to work what is around 63 Km's when I drive around 85Km/h in the last few Km's the red led starts to flash!

I will try to keep the list below updated and make some nice speed plots (with GPSCycleComputer)

km kWh Diff Km Diff kWh Km/kWh

105,5 4,1 64,5 4,1 15,73
171,2 7,92 65,7 3,82 17,20

Re: XM-5000 Range Real World Record

did an high speed run yesterday.
The total trip was 55,5km and the avarage of the first 50km was 69km/h with an top speed op 92,3km/h.

After 45km the red led started to flash and than after not slowing down the scooter started to show hickups on 52km.

The last 3km's I slowed down to get home ;-)

The charge took 4,3 kWh.

So the range of the scooter is between 55km to ?????km.

The next test trip will be an slow sunday afternoon trip and getting the speed not higher than 50km/h

Re: XM-5000 Range Real World Record

I got 96,8 Km/h (60,5 Miles) out of an full load ;-)

This was achieved by keeping the speedometer below 60Km/h all the time.
First I drove from and to work on a slow speed road this took about 70Km and then the scooter had an rest during the night. The next day the rest of the 26,8 Km was put on the speedometer.
The charge afterwards toke some time and according to the meter I had put in 4,4 kWh (1kWh took me 22Km).

So far I drove 1671 Km and using 94,02 kWh so 1 kWh took me 17,8 Km.

One high speed run took me 55 Km using 4,32 kWh that was 1 kWh for 12,73 Km.

Congratulations, I see that you've figured out that speed kills. It kills fuel mileage, whether your fuel is liquid carbon, or electrons.:-) Note though that the way to kill a battery pack is to run it down to empty (or close). They don't like that at all, and won't last much longer than a pack of smokes, if treated that way very often.

edit: I guess I shouldn't have said "Congratulations" at the beginning. It makes it look like I might have been sarcastically making fun of your posts, which I wasn't.

All Right Lammert - You're on! :-)

Here's info from my last high-speed run. First time I've had my bike on the interstate - I had to slow for some traffic!

http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=297241

The ride started at 9:30pm, temperature 93ºF. Energy management was easy - full throttle unless slowing down was necesary. :-) Top speed was 60.1 mph - 96.7 kph

Hey Andy-- that is great mileage! Did you happen to check out the starting temperature of the hub motor and the ending hub temperature? I would be really interested in what the ending was especially with the ambient temperature being 93 degrees. It seems that John in Michigan also is aware that these hub motors are vulnerable with high temperatures, they are putting heat sinks in there new motors for the 4500 built in the USA. It has been (unseasonably) hot here in Seattle, so I will run my pack out and let you know what I come up with....Mikie

Hi Andy, I bet that's some nice scenery in your area sounds nice. Mikie I'm running a kelly KBL14251H on my stock 3500li now also. I run on 28 cells and the motor has never been over 115F yet that I know of. I get at least 40miles even at 45 and over speeds. I'm loving it!

PS alright maybe I'm fudging a little but according to my averages I'm using about an average 55 watt/hours per mile.
72vx40AH=2880WH
2880WH devided by 55wh/mi= 52.36mi But I don't think I'm getting 40AH out of my batteries. Those figures are for 24cells BTW

Re: XM-5000 Range Real World Record

Mikie, What power settings are you using on your controller? Have you hooked up a laptop to change settings yet? I had mine at 70% motor power, which mean 70% of 200amps =140amps max to the motor and 50% battery power=100 max amps from batteries. I know this sounds like it doesn't make sense but I guess the controller lowers the voltage and increases the amps, that's why the controller doesn't have to draw as many amps from the battery that it is putting to the motor. If you download the program from Kelly's website you can turn on regen braking through the throttle also without doing anything but a click of a button. Just hook up a laptop to it and go!

That sounds great!

I will test next year an XM 5000 on the highest mountain street in Austria, the Grossglockner high alpine street. This setting will improve range very much at this test.
