Do you have an alternate trunk in mind? I gave up on the "trunk," and got a basket from my friendly OfficeDepot. It's open, but it looks better than a milk crate.

The brackets came from my now deceased "Hummer"

and the glazing (now replaced twice) from Home Depot's 13/32 Lexan sheet. Getting backed up over by a dump truck was hard on it. (My wife now knows not to stop directly behind a dump truck at a stop sign.) At that point, the scoot still ran, but I did need to replace the glazing.

For $40, flea-bay has something like what I started with:

Re: bigger trunk for xb-600?

Does anyone have any other clever ideas or suggestions for carrying diverse items on these bikes? I'm sure people in China have figured out all kinds of ways to transport stuff on them. So far, I've figured out how to bring home a pizza on it, but I'd like to know if people have come up with other kinds of racks, etc. to mount on these, front and back. Or how about trailers?

Hi Buzzer I have a Dream Ryder which is similar in body to an XB-700. I have used motorcycle saddle bags now for 3yrs. and find then sufficient to bring home most of my shopping and transport needs. The ones I have are expandable and can carry 4 to 5 grocery bags.

As well as the tie downs are useful for longer items.

The saddlebags look like a great solution to carrying extra "stuff", especially with the tie-downs for securing longer items. I'm surprised I hadn't thought of it, having pedaled across the U.S. on a regular bicycle when I got out of college (too long ago). My bicycle had big saddlebags, as well as another bag mounted on the handlebars and a pup tent under the seat. How do your saddlebags attach to the Dream Ryder? Does anyone else have any other ideas for carrying other types of cargo on these bikes?

It installs quite simply just under the seat and adjust the straps accordingly.

Re: bigger trunk for xb-600?

Thanks for posting the photo, which makes everything quite clear. Since starting this thread, I have made an incredible discovery that rivals the "shunt mod" (well, OK, I'm just kidding, but it's still a great idea). I've been trying to figure out how to transport cups of coffee on the XB-600 so I can do Dunkin' Donuts "coffee runs" for the people I work with (another excuse to ride the bike). The solution: Put 4 cups of coffee (with lids, obviously) into one of the Dunkin' Donuts cardboard cup carriers, set the cup carrier with the cups inside the bike's rear cargo carrier, and pack a folded hand towel on top of the cups to keep them from moving and also absorb any spillage caused by road bumps. With the cargo carrier's lid closed and locked, the pressure of the lid on the folded towel on top of the cups keeps everything firmly in place!

Bionicjay:

OOPS! I mistyped my last entry. I had meant to say "since I started ADDING to this thread", 'cuz it's yours, not mine. Anyway, how big a cargo container are you looking for? For all the "back to school" stuff available in stores right now, I suggest you take a look in department stores and other household goods departments, because there's quite a selection of storage containers, compartments, and organizers on the shelves. I'm sure many of them could easily be bolted to a bike, and would have hasps for locking, etc.

Hi Folks, I just added a post in the Accessories Forum regarding a new trunk design just introduced to the dealer community today by a major distributor here.

Re: bigger trunk for xb-600?

I'm interested in a trunk carrier for my XB-600 to hold an extra battery pack to give me a better range.

Would you have a link to this accessory..as I was unable to locate what you referred to?

Enjoy,

Rocky
