Electric scooters and motorcycle

Hello and thank you to everyone participating on these forums. I have been following and educating myself on the advances and step back of electric vehicles for a few months now.

my question is a practical one; which electric scooters currently on the market would be the best fitted to use as a daily rental on a small touristic island knowing that a trip around the island average 30 miles, the terrain is mixed with mostly flat road and a top speed of 45 miles per hour would be sufficient?

best regards,

Unfortunately, the only two two-wheeled EV's that fit your requirements are the now defunct (not yet official, but it definitely shouldn't be long) Vectrix, and the Electric Motorsport GPR-S.

The GPR-S is a very nice bike, but as you can see, it isn't a scooter. The longer you wait, the more choices will be available, but those two are the only choices available today.

Thank you for your post! Would it be possible for you to be more specific? I operate a number of Hire EV's in Small Island locations, and each situation varies widely!! (the weights of the riders for one!!) But I would be very interested in your experience.

Maybe you should talk to John at Current Motors. He is a member of these forums and he sells scooters that may meet your needs.

Yeah, Current Motor Co's maxi scooters are very nice, also. I didn't think they had delivered any yet, though. I'll shoot John a PM, and see if he'll reply here as to whether or not they're shipping product yet. That would probably be the best of both worlds, since CuMoCo isn't in dire financial straits, like Vectrix, and their scooters also meet all of the criteria.

Green Wheels,

Our C120e would probably fit your needs very well. We begin shipping product next month. Feel free to contact me via PM, email or at our website (www.currentmotor.com) and I'd be happy to discuss this in more detail with you.

Which islands? And what jurisdiction for motor vehicle certification purposes?

You are right the vectrix seems to be a good fit....regarding the GPR-S did you have a chance to test drive it in real conditions, I wonder about the range with a passenger ?

Hello,

You probably have more experience than I do, so far I have only be able to test drive the vectrix and the e-max 110s, I weight 185 lbs and the passenger 110 lbs, in both real conditions test drive on open road we traveled about 60km which is too close for confort ! "an island round trip is 45 km" and I cannot afford to have the bike strnded on the other side of the island.
I am planning to open a electric scooter rentals chains in various cruise lines destination, the goal is to rent the bike to cruise passengers for the day or a few hours. My 3 main concerns are the limited autonomy, the reliability and the maintenance/service if needed.

May I asked which vehicles you offering as rentals and what is a typical mileage for a day.

thanks for your time

thanks a lot I got news from john already, did you have a chance to drive it?

thank you I'll contact you via your website !

I have an e-max S110 which in my opinion would be a good rental electric moped. It is classed as L1 as limited to 30 miles per hour. Noticed reference to Vectrix. It is true that they were a good company whith a great scooter (although pretty expensive), but did you know that their proposed VX2 which is now on hold, was based on the 110S & was to be made in the e-max factory. There is a new sole importer & distributor for e-max in UK (Electric Transport Group) www.e-transportgroup.com who should be able to put you in the right direction.

I agree the 110S is a great scooter but it is a bit limited in range and speed for my purpose, I believe most prospects, considering that cruise passengers travel in couple or small groups would like to get a little more speed and on my hand a stranded tourist, because of a dead battery, missing is cruise ship wouldn't be could advertising....I wish we could have more info on the 190 L!

indeed it seems that vectrix and e-max have a lot in common..

Actually, the only scooter manufacturer that has anything whatsoever in common with Vectrix is Current Motor Company Although Vectrix had been considering selling a smaller, slower, lower range scooter, produced by e-max, it was in no way competition for the Vectrix VX-1. As you can see from the links, the Current Motors scooters have longer range than a Vectrix VX-1, not shorter.

I've been owning a vectrix for 2.5 years and 17.500 km. 22.500watts of power, it's a blast to ride! I've been enjoying it since the first day, it is a pity the brand is about to fill chapter 7.
I desire the best to currentmotor, the battery choice with BMS looks ok, the deleuxe edition has a great potential. I hope they will build soon a motorbike with better acceleration than the Vectrix.

e-max & vectrix worked together in the e-max facctory to produce the proposed VX2 which is based on the 110S e-max. The VX2 test scooters were produced by the e-max factory, but are on hold. VX1 is a great scooter but large & expensive. e-max 110S is now readily available in UK as Electric Transport Limited ( ET ) www.e-transportgroup.com is the sole distributor & importer of e-max scooters in UK. A new e-max store is opening on 1st September 2009 near Richmond Bridge 410 Richmond Road TW1 2EP. Viva la rEVolution www.electricrevolution.co.uk

thanks for your comment, since you have ridden already 17.500km, what is your personal experience in terms of speed and range with the vectrix.I had a chance to ride it and it was a great experience however I envisioned to use it as rental and my experience with a passenger in a city environment "stop and go"was only 55km.
