New Ontario Law Regarding E Bikes

Ontario Bill 126, changes to the Road Safety Act 2009, came into effect a few weeks ago.

(7) Subsection 1 (1) of the Act is amended by adding the following definition:
"power-assisted bicycle" means a bicycle that,
(a) is a power-assisted bicycle as defined in subsection 2 (1) of the Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations made under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act (Canada),
(b) bears a label affixed by the manufacturer in compliance with the definition referred to in clause (a),
(c) has affixed to it pedals that are operable, and
(d) is capable of being propelled solely by muscular power; ("bicyclette assistée")

There is NO label on my BionX system and the dealer who I purchased it from is not aware of the existence of any such label.

Hopefully the police have better things to do with their time than hassle E Bike users over technicalities like this but I wouldn't bet money on it.

no worries, i wouldn't be concerned about that law, unless you are riding a Scooter looking type of eBike.

to most, including police the BionX is just looks like a regular bike to them.

so no one is going to hassle you over a small label.

just try to avoid running red lights, and stop signs ;) :p

Re: New Ontario Law Regarding E Bikes

I asked this question in another forum that is for E-bike riders in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Quote "Good question... Check with Bionx for us? Report back? They must be well versed with this...

a.marchand [at] bionx.ca

or
c.fortin [at] bionx.ca

or
p.larose [at] bionx.ca

tks
Lock"

These are the e-mail addresses for the people at BionX who should have the answers to any BionX questions.

He did reply to me. I must say the answer was kind of not very helpful. He might be in vacation give him a few more days.
