Hello all, a new member here. Thought maybe someone could help me. I have one of the TRX 3-wheel scooters that was purchased at the end of January 2005. The controller burned out last summer and looking to replace it. The controller removed has 2 bunches of wires. On one side there are green and blue wires (about 16 gauge) coming out and going into a plastic socket connector and on the other side, there are what looks like a main black and red wire which end with barrel type connectors. Also coming out on the same side bunched together are black,red,green, and white (about 20 or 22 gauge wires going into a connector as well.
Here's the problem, I checked a couple of different sites including scootercatalog.com and they sell a TRX Zoom scooter which looks identical to mine, however there are 2 controller box versions that can be bought as replacements for the scooter. Both have different type connections than mine does. My old controller has a total of 4 connections and on the website, 1 has 5 and 1 has 6 connections. The people at scootercatalog.com had no idea if I could use 1 of their controllers or not. Apparently, there was a model change shortly after mine came out. Does anyone have a schematic or suggestion of how I could retrofit one of these controllers? Scooter is in good shape if I can find one. I would greatly appreciate a direction here, Thanks, Mike.
The main difference I see between what you described as your old controller, and the Versions online, is the second set of motor leads coming out of the controller. You mentioned only one pair of green and blue. The controllers pictured both had left and right motor leads. Do you have one or two motors on your TRX? If you have two, maybe they just pick up power from the controller on one set of wires and branch out somewhere else in the circuit? Or piggyback from one motor connection to the other?
The 4-wire connector would be the throttle and probably some type of LED on the fourth wire. It's not possible to count the number of wires in the pictures online. Does it look like a compatible plug to yours?
The main red and black wires with bullet connectors are from the main power source (battery pack). If you trace the red wire, it should go to your main power switch and then on to a fuse and then to the positive terminal of the most-positive battery in your 3-battery pack. If you have not ridden for awhile, I'd suggest you visually and mechanically check ALL the wiring and connections throughout! You'll learn a lot about your scooter, and you could even scratch-out a wiring diagram as you went along. Could be useful for future diagnostics. Also, now may be a good time to check each of your batteries to ensure they can hold a charge and are reasonably balanced. Do you know what caused your controller to blow?
I think you could make one of these controllers work for you. It may require a bit of connector changes or some re-wiring, though. Have you looked at any of the scooter parts supply stores online to see what else is available in 36V controllers? TNC carries a good selection of inexpensive brush-motor controllers in a wide range of voltages. You'll probably be able to find one that is about half the cost of Scooter Catalog. It may be difficult to find a "plug-and-play", so you will likely need to be changing "some" connectors anyway.
Could you trace the motor wire (green and blue) from the controller connection all the way to the motor(s)? And confirm that you have a LED somewhere on the throttle grip?

OK your only showing one of the controllers this model has another controller that connects to the sensors on the front wheel the new ones have roller switches on the front wheel. What is the problem your having with the scooter? If you need a new controller you will need to get new switches and wiring harnes along with the 5 wire controller. all avalible at SC also you will need to modify the front post to work with the new type switches. let me know what your problem is we may be able to do some trading of parts and help each other out.
New member needs help! I have the same issue with my TRX Scooter. Does anyone have drawings, tips or schematics for the upgrade from the 2 controllers to the new style controller? I have purchased a TRX1134 controller with 5 connections from Fun creations. I only need details on connecting the throttle and switches to the 8 pin connector on the new controller.
