Meeting up in the UK

I thought it might be helpful to add this so that anyone who wants to meet up with other Vectrix owners in the UK, could find each other. There's also a useful members locations map where you can show your approximate location. You don't have to show your home address. http://visforvoltage.org/map/user

I'm in South Wiltshire, near the Hampshire and Dorset borders, by the way.

This map is looking like the classic iberian football match:
FC. Barcelona 2 - R. Madrid 1
Barça wins (hehehehe)

In the UK, Oxford seems a good location for the english meeting.

Ooooh, I wish I could make Oxford! Time to buy a m/c trailer, drive within a few miles of the meet and ride the rest of the way!

I was asked to cover a sporting event to do first aid last week, but the distance was too great for a round trip. They were very happy to let me plug in for the return trip however. Even though it meant unplugging the tea urn for a couple of hours as they didn't have sufficient amp capacity. LOL! It was just a little hut by a cycle circuit. The V got more attention than the main event, whirring away during recharging, proudly proclaiming ELECTRIC all up its sides.

Re: Meeting up in the UK

I added my location to the map as well and it seems a great idea to organise a suitable location. Oxford would be a great location to meet but still too distant for me to make it without a plug stop. Anyone that could fill the gap?

Re: Meeting up in the UK

As tom5007 says, it is very easy to make a trip of 100 km with one recharge in the middle, it only requires a lot of planification. If the trip requires two consecutive plug-ins, it becomes too long. I suggest that it should be taken into account the possibility of hiring a 2-vectrix-cargo van between two vectrix owners. Or wait for the lithium ;-) hehehe.

Re: Meeting up in the UK

It's funny how some non EV people have picked up different ideas about EVs. For example: I have had surprise expressed when it's explained that just a standard 13amp socket will provide sufficient power to charge the V and not some special industrial supply like some of the cars need for a fast charge.
Then I have also had someone say, "Well if you run out of power, don't you just have to go and get your car and plug the bike into the cigarette lighter socket for a while?" Those are probably the same people who think that you don't need a licence to ride a V, thinking it comes under the pedalec legislation, and that 14 year olds can ride one!

Lots of education still needed regarding these EVs, which I, in my small way try to provide at the traffic light grand prix, to dispel ANY pre/misconceptions that EVs are like milk floats or G-Whizzes LOL!!!

Oxford's fine by me (as the resident!) - You're all welcome to steal some amps! There's a very good biker's cafe about 5 miles from where I live (Fox's Diner, Berinsfield), though I'm not sure what the Harley riders would make of a gathering of Vectrix's... it would be good to find out though!

Cheers,

Re: Meeting up in the UK

Would this meet be open to those of us not riding a Vectrix? I'm riding a Chinese scooter, and I'd like to see how the 'other half' live :)

Re: Meeting up in the UK

I can see that there's plenty interest in this Uk meeting. nice!
However, you need somebody to "lead" the event ( put a date, find place to recharge, trip around toghether, place to eat...)

As Snail is an Oxford resident, he is very suitable to organize this 1st UK Vectrix meeting. What do you think, Snail? It would be only 3-6 bikes, sure it won't be a lot of work....

I don't know Moreati.. for me it's ok but I'm from barcelona, I can't decide.

Re: Meeting up in the UK

For me it's just over 40 miles which means I would need a pit stop somewhere in between. On the other side I am happy to serve as a pit stop for someone else making its way to to Oxford. I am surprised to see only two (Simon and me) from London area. There must be more on this forum.

Re: Meeting up in the UK

I'll see what I can do... I have a contact in Oxford City Council - I may be able to get them to lay on a bit of an event (and hopefully some power...). I'll keep you posted!

R - It looks like the Barca event is a fantastic occasion! I'm not sure I can organise anything as extravagant...

Cheers,

Brian

Would like to be there, but it's over 100 miles from me!! Plus me and my Vectrix are not allowed on M-roads yet.

It's all down to logistics. I'm looking at getting a trailer soon. I could drop my bike 30 miles from Oxford, come to your house Norman, pop your bike on the trailer and get you to where mine was parked, then we could ride together into Oxford. Charge up there and reverse the process for the return. Simples!!

Sounds great I guess the right spot to start our journey to Oxford shouldn't be too far from me. Having a second though we could start our journey in Maidenhead where I would have the opportunity to charge (and you to safely park your car/trailer). We both could then take the journey to Oxford from there (34miles of country roads). I would have to go to Maidenhead maybe two hours earlier to get my "top up" for the stretch to Oxford.

Re: Meeting up in the UK

Hello Chaps,

Think I have updated the map, showing where I am in Petworth, West Sussex. Meeting in Oxford 72.2 miles away, a weeee bit too far for me. I must get on and complete my range extender and turn my V into a hybrid... plans ahoy...

Anyone welcome with a an e-ride at Petworth (by prior arrangement). We even have a few spare Coulombs if you need them...

Best wishes,

Drew

Re: Meeting up in the UK

I'm working on it... My contact at OCC is away until the beginning of next week. I'm very hopeful that if I can persuade him, we will have all the access to electricity you need!

So, when do you want the event? Depths of winter, or the first shoots of spring? Weekday or weekend? What sort of things do you want to do - in fact, what normally happens at a Vectrix rally? Do I need to arrange for dancing girls and unlimited supplies of beer? :D

Re: Meeting up in the UK

I'm 66 miles away (Worcestershire) so I think I'm in, with 2 charges for safety. It would be interesting if we could all provide a database of friends and family members that would be prepared to provide charge opportunities for the day, for those with gaps in their route. What do you all think?

Makes sense to have a list (or google map) with such locations. We could share google maps with other people of this forum/attendees for the UK event.

It looks like we need a couple of charging points south of Oxford. certainly I am happy to provide power but as mentioned before I am still a good 40 miles of Oxford. So we need a station somewhere between me and Oxford just to extend my current range 35miles with the missing 5 miles to make it to Oxford.

Re: Meeting up in the UK

I'm 70 ish miles away 5 miles South of Petersfield (am on the map) so it is feasible with one top up as I'm currently getting a consistent 44+ miles out of a charge (to the death though). I'd like to be in, especially if there are dancing girls but not sure beer is a good idea unless we're staying over! My route would be off the Motorways so my aim would be to find a village pub somewhere en-route. I'll have to borrow a Sat Nav as I have an appalling sense of direction! With regards to timing, weekends are best for me. As for dates, with the unpredictable British Weather, who knows when to suggest. I'd like to avoid the depths of winter, if possible so sooner would be best, if there is time and if not then Spring.

I am about as South as you can get but would be pleased to offer a charge point for anybody to the East or West who would benefit from a slight route deviation for a top up charge.
