Lead exploded?? Before you invest in the Lithium batteries, have you found out what blew up the SLA batteries?, did they go while charging?

I hate to say the answer is NO. First of all, one can NOT mix batteries when in series. The Amp Hours of the pack will be way off. The second reason is if you did do a series of Lithium and Lead, the discharge and charge curves are so different that on charge the lead if it had higher ampere hours would destroy the Lithium Iron Phosphate in short order. I don't know what Battery council says for their rating on Lithium but for testing procedure of Nickel type of batteries / Cells it is 10 hour rating and for Lead it is a 20 hour rating. For Lead cells / Batteries because of use in Electric Vehicles and a guy named Peukert, BCI also has charts for 3 hour rating on Pb-acid batteries and 5 hour rating. And in Marine use and golf carts Lead is discharged through a 75 Amp load to 1.8 V/C to give a minute rating. If you had a different set of Lithium, Nickel and Lead batteries in series one could make a high enough voltage for LAB work. But not for any EV. Because of Lithium unique chemistry it also can not be used in parallel either with Pb batteries for long. It can be used to jump start an ICE vehicle though because of Low Z of Lithium. Usually on the order of .6 Milli-ohms.
If you have the money to buy 2 batteries wait till you buy a Matched set. Extremely true for EV use for I wasted so much on golf cart battery replacement. If it weren't for controller in my AC bike I would take out the bad battery of mine but it will only work on 75 volt down to cut off voltage, but a DC motor and PWM can work down to 12 or 24 volt depending on brand.

I believe the poster was using numeric values to express common words, as in cell phone text language, 2== "to", "two", or "too" , and 4== "for" or "four" I also think (hope) the intention was a full pack replacement to lithium.

After re-reading Houseboy's listing, I see! I gas I am not one to use I pods and texting and making short cuts. I think the XB-600 uses NPX-80's? I modified a 3000 to use 40 Amp hour Thunder Sky cells but what cell arrangement would work on the NPX-80 battery pack? The U-1 is easy to change over to LiFePO4 but do you use A124 cylindrical cells? You are right saying figure out why exploded. Alpha products are good in the fact their chargers are well regulated and can't over charge Pb-acid battery pack. The Thunder Sky seem to need a tad bit higher voltage to FULLY charge. I don't know how to find reikiman's post on here about how to destroy the Thunder Sky cell but it is good learning for every one who wants to convert to LiFePO4. It is an hour long seminar to watch but is Great information on Lithium cells.
If Houseboy69 can find out problem he is good to go with Lithium. I don't know if there is any way to charge Lithium like I charge my XM-3000 and similar scooters, I leave them plugged in 24/7 always floating 68.2 volts.
I just got my second set of 48 volt Lithium pack from eBay and going to make my first Pedilex? Pedelx? A 1000-Watt front wheel drive mtn bike. I like to keep battery pack floating and don't know if that is safe? I don't want to boil dry the salts? the Electrolytes? in the LiFePO4 cells. At least the Lithium doesn't self discharge much and or fast.

Re: Can u buy lithim batterys for xb600

The quick answer is "Sure you can."

The crucial word is "buy." $$$$ A LIon pack will be twice ?? the cost of a SLA pack, and require a totally different charging setup. Standard discussion says that a LIon pack needs active battery management for each cell, though I believe the XB-700's don't use any BMS. The danger is blowing a LIon pack. I've seen several folks that have watched this happen.

My advice would be to invest in a high quality 12V charger and new SLA batteries wired individually to an 8-gang Anderson PowerPole connector. You'll then use the charger wired to charge all four in parallel. On the road, you'll use a different plug to supply full pack voltage to the scoot in series. This arrangement leaves the stock chassis plug in place, so you can use the stock charger for "opportunity charging" during a trip. The Parallel charger will ensure that the batteries are equally charged after a full charge.

If you consider yourslf handy enough to change to a new pack chemistry, changing to PowerPole connectors would be a piece of cake.
