What?

Tech on the phone:
"I think the delivery drivers are laying these on their sides so they have more room to put things on top..."

Anyone else here ever receive odd replies from a tech?

Then they should have a sign on then "This End Up", just another excuse. If properly packed, there should be no movement, and the proper weight and flute of corrugated board used. In the USA thats a standard that's set, and requires random testing, next time you see a corrugated box, you'll notice the information on the bottom, even the crew that printed it.
So far I have yet to see a corrugated box from China that does not contain a large amount of recycled material, it's much cheaper doing it that way. Our corrugated is so good, people take old large boxes back to Mexico to build homes on bikes. I've designed boxes to carry large items, and we had a machine to put it on that tumbled it all around, and we checked for damage etc. Scuff Coat can also be applied during the mfg process of the board, and it also protects from scuff marks. I'm really surprised shippers are even handling item not properly packaged, but with the amount of stuff coming from China, it's probably either handle it or starve. Same with the Dock workers Union.
I believe most of the damage happen between China and here. The initial packing is not very good, and to get as many as the can in a Container they probably force it some, the handling after that are pretty rough at sea. They handle a load of Lexus of Big Screen TV's much different than a container of cheap Scooters if your willing to pay for it.
As I said it's cheaper for them to just give you 10% replacement parts, than to do better packing.
Since the receiver never opens the box and checks them before they are shipped, more cost, it's there word against the delivery company. Special handling would probably cost more. I doubt if that much damage is being caused by the final delivery driver, they wouldn't put anything very heavy on top, it's harder on them getting it down.
I'm surprised someone hasn't gotten a load of Bricks or something in a Scooter Box.
Do you know any OTR drivers, they don't like to dead head and you may be able to work something out with them.

FWIW, I type so slow, chas_stevenson slipped right by me.

Re: What?

icon_yikes.gifWOW What a rip off!!!!!

I think we should order a few and insure them for about $10,000 each and when it gets to the final destination collect the money.

Maybe that would make the shippers take notice.

This question seems to pop up more and more lately "Are these people really that stupid?"

Re: What?

FWIW, This is the Shipping & Returns Policy where I purchased my E Scooter from.

SHIPPING

Scooters, ATVs, Dirtbikes, and Electric bikes are shipped by South Eastern Frieght and there partner carriers. All part are shipped DHL or USPS.

We mainly only ship scooters to the lower 48 states of U.S., but for parts we CAN ship to other countries if customers are willing to pay the extra cost of shipping. All of our scooters are brand new in the box as 95% assembled. Our scooter experts will examine each scooter to make sure everything on the scooters is in prefect condition prior to shipping.

We fully pack the scooter in a professional way. We purchase insurance and signature required for each scooter that we ship (it’s included in the S/H); THEREFORE, WE WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES BY SHIPPING; however, we will help customers to file claims to the shipping company if any damages happen during shipping.

Electric Bike Note: For Electric Bikes shipped outside of Florida, a $30 wood crating fee is charged to all orders. Wood crated are assembled around the outside of the electric bike boxes in order to protect the bikes from damage during shipping.

Customers have the right to refuse the acceptance of any major damaged scooter.

For scooters that are lost during shipping, we will make claim for the customers. Once we have the confirmation from the shipping company, we will be able to send you the replacement scooters.

We do not ship scooters to P.O. Box, APO and FPO, nor do we accept COD. Orders of scooters that are made before 1:00 pm EST will usually be shipped the same day or the next business day at the latest (weekends and holidays are not considered as business day).

For orders of parts please allow 24-72 hours for us to ship them out. Tracking numbers of scooters and parts will be sent to customer routinely.

LOCAL SHIPPING SERVICE CENTER AND TRANSIT MAPS

To view our Service Centers available in a specific state, click HERE.

RETURN POLICY:
We accept authorized returns on unused regular motor powered vehicles for up to 3 days after you receive your motor powered vehicle. Unused means that the product has not be assembled, ridden or used in any way.

All returns are subject to a 30% restocking fee. Please allow up to 7 business days after we receive the returned motor powered vehicle for us to process your refund. Return shipping cost is the customers responsibility.

We do not accept returns on any replacement parts or performance parts.

You are responsible for:

* Returning the product in new, resalable condition. It must arrive unused in its original packaging, complete with all accessories and user manuals. If any original parts, accessories, documentation or packaging are used, damaged or missing, you will be charged a 50% restocking fee.
* Paying all costs for return shipping via UPS, FedEx or freight truck. Since you are also responsible for any damage that may occur during the return shipping process, we recommend purchasing shipping insurance on your return. If your motor powered vehicle is damaged in transit without shipping insurance, you will be charged a 50% restocking fee.
* Writing the Return Material Authorization (RMA) number clearly on top of the package. All packages arriving without a legible RMA number written on top of the package will be considered unauthorized and will be charged a 50% restocking fee and may even be refused. You must email us to get a Return Material Authorization. If you would like to return your motor powered scooter, please email us for a Return Merchandise Authorization Number as one will not be given over the phone. A customer service representative will e-mail you your (RMA) number and return instructions within 24-48 business hours. Be advised that a 30% restocking fee will apply.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
Once an order has been processed, it cannot be cancelled and shipment cannot be stopped. If you choose to cancel your order once it has been processed or shipped, you will be charged for return shipping (if necessary) and a 30% cancellation/restocking fee. You must email us to get confirmation of cancellation. It is a very big inconvenience for us to cancel an order, due to the fact that scooters are large and hard to move around. How it works is that once you have placed an order, we tag the scooter with your name, then it is picked up from our warehouse and transported to the service department for the prep, then it is transported again to our inspect line and a inspection tech checks over your scooter, then it has to be loaded up again and sent back to the warehouse to be loaded on dock for shipment. It sounds easier said than done, this is why you need to be certain that you want the product before making and order.

DAMAGE POLICY:
All of our vehicles pass a rigorous 36 point inspection before shipment to insure that they are completely functional and free of any damage. Therefore any damage to the motor powered vehicle has occured during the shipping process. If you receive a damaged motor powered vehicle, you must contact us within 3 days of receiving it so we can file a damage report with the shipping company and make arrangements to fix or replace your damaged motor powered vehicle. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of damage claim.

The product will be delivered in a crate and is safely packed. It is critical that you inspect the unit(s) prior to the delivery company leaving to insure no damage occurred during transportation. If damages do occur please notify the shipping company upon delivery and note damages before signing the release forms. If the shipping company leaves before you inspect, you may be denied the claim by the shipping company. It is the buyers complete responsibility to note the damages with the shipping company. The claim is between you and the shipping company. You must then contact us within 72 hours so that we can assist you in filing a claim. You may be required to email us pictures of the damages so that we determine the severity level and make the ultimate decision to send you replacement parts or in extremely rare cases have the product returned. IF YOU REFUSE AN ITEM FOR ANY REASON YOU WILL BE CHARGED 30% OF ORIGINAL SALES PRICE PLUS ANY SHIPPING COSTS. We are here to help you. We inspect all products prior to shipment therefore we cannot be held responsible for damages upon arrival.

Peace Out,
Gman

Re: What?

Yeah, that's nice. I can offer the same policies - that would nearly double the price and delivery times which would match the other dealer offers.

*And I totally agree that things need to be packaged more securely before leaving the manufacturer - an extra 15 minutes and a few more Yuan is all it would take to prevent all this.

Re: What?

Are those the ones selling for $1600.00?
It seems people want the product, and will probably pay the extra $30 or what ever. I guess you would always have to have a couple on hand.
What happens if there is too much damage to reship it, who eats it or pays the cost to return it?
Any progress or clarification on the VIN/MSO issue yet?

Re: What?

$1500 on a different site. ;)

I do have one (ex)customer who had one delivered badly damaged and was sent a replacement, also damaged. I'm presently working with the warehouse to get him a full refund, and I will be eating the costs. This is a unique circumstance and I doubt if I will ever do this again, but in this case there is no other options available. This order was local so I can pick up the moped and repair/rebuild it myself. I may keep it, or see about selling it as a scratch-n-dent item here locally.

Last I heard on the MSO was they were needing a computer program used in printing them out. No word on the VINs yet.
