Radical Enabling Technology: Drive/Braking/Suspension Module

Hi all:

I'm posting to inform you that I'm open sourcing two inventions. They are electric drive/braking/suspension modules. Feel free to build them or sell them. Just don't claim to have invented them. These have been published previously and other measures have been taken to make them unpatentable.

Thank you for sharing this!

Nice idea to make stuff unpatentable.

How many of these drive systems have you built and tested? How large are they?

Who else has taken up the design and replicated it?

This information may be used entirely at your own risk.

There is always a way if there is no other way!

Re: Radical Enabling Technology: Drive/Braking/Suspension Module

I'm in the process of developing a pair of units for a light EV as part of a series of engineering competitions. The size depends on the application. The one in the 3D model is based on a MARS motor and a Model A tire and wheel size. The modules can be a lot bigger or a lot smaller. It scales very well.

This is an interesting idea that could make my trike design a lot simpler and more drive-system-redundant.

I have a "pondering" post about this on the blog at http://electricle.blogspot.com/2010/01/suspension-and-motor-modules-by-gary.html

Cool Mike.

Your blog came up in a google search for the drive modules. I'm glad it can be of use and can't wait to see how you design yours. I'm using existing parts like rear knuckles from a Polaris ATV and fork pistons from medium/large scooters. I haven't picked my motors or controller yet.

Build as many as you like and sell all you want. :-)
