LiFePO4 20Ah cell, 30C rated and 467g. THE BEST cell presently available!

I thought you guys might be interested in a cell that has recently become available. It's a Prismatic type cell in 15Ah and 20Ah capacity. Rated to approximately 30C with weight of only 401g and 467g for the 15Ah and 20Ah respectively.

Sizes are as follows for 20Ah:
7.0 X 166 X 227mm

15Ah
6.8 X 150 X 211mm

There's lots of info on Endless Sphere about these including some independent tests which back up the figures.

Here's some test that are currently underway by an independent person (unfortunately a server outage has meant some posts have been lost from the last few days:

And some more info:

These cells have significantly higher energy density than any other LiFePO4 cell as well as higher power density than pretty much any large format cell available AFAIK. They're very special and they're available now.

Kevin, 30C is the safe discharge limit, and it's spectacularly high. Essentially, you can discharge the entire capacity of the cell in 2 minutes.

Cell_man, I'm reading the threads over at E-S, and this does look like a big step forward in LiFePO battery technology. We'll be watching for more info. :)

Thanks Mike :)

I'm not recommending that you do actually run them at 30C continuously but the tests so far do indicate that this sort of discharge rate is possible. What is more important however is the fact that they will supply current levels that would have most other types of cell in big trouble with big heating and bad sag with minimal sag and minimal heating. The cell format also lends itself to easy pack assembly and cooling if big current is required.

Some are already looking at running 1 of these in parallel with a bank of typical 2 or 3C cell, to give a bit of a boost when big current is required. Using them this way would make both financial and functional sense.

Well they look like them and they perform like them like them too. Cannot possibly comment on the manufacturer :) Quite a few have received cells from me and there's been no complaints so far with regards to the performance. There's lots on info on Endless Sphere about the cells as well as some independent tests. Independent tests I've received indicate performance very comparable to A123 26650 with regards to C rating but they obviously have much higher energy density and also power density considering the reduced weight per Ah.

I would now revise the original comments to something more like a cell which will deliver a constant 15 to 20C but considerably more for short bursts of a few seconds, maybe upto 30C or more. Excessive heat will damage them so better to keep things more reasonable to within say 10C average with higher peaks and they will stay within safe limits and give a long cycle life. Original A123 26650 have been independently tested to deliver about 17C if teperature and life cycle are kept to reasonable levels.

I have a big pile of them here so anyone is welcome to drop me a line for a pack or a sample. They are priced at 2.5USD per Ah and come in 15Ah and 20Ah cell types.
