It is unlikely that your ELECTRIC scooter will require ANY "motor oil" for a very long time! Unlike gasoline motors, there is very little to lubricate on an electric motor, only the wheel and/or armature bearings, and the drive chain, if a chain were used.--Charge it up, check that assembly was correctly done and that all is tight that should be tight, with all adjustments and tire pressures correct, and go riding!--Enjoy, and be safe!--Bob Curry

I just had a second thought that perhaps you are referring to oil for the chain? If so, DO NOT use WD-40. Clean the chain well with a tooth brush and compressed air. Oil it lightly with any motor oil (even used oil), wipe off the excess and you are good to go. Expensive chains have little rubber "O" rings sealing the grease in the rollers. If you use a solvent on them, you can screw them up.
Thanks for the replys, but! but! this is an electric motor that has a gear box with it, the manual says to change the oil after 300 klm. It has a filler plug a glass level site plug, and a drain plug. what kind of oil do I use. I know it would be a gear oil but what grade of oil? It's has not got a dip stick just a site glass.
Please start with the make, model and year of the scoot. A picture might be helpful. Find a dealer for this scoot and call them?
most use 80-90W gearbox oil. more or less standard for small gearboxes. available from most autoparts and tractor supply stores.
oldgun,
Thanks for the clarification. I'm interested in seeing pix of the scooter and make, model, source, etc.
Any good gear oil should work in my opinion. If you are trying to maintain a warranty, you may want to follow the manufacturer's or dealer's recommendation.
Always a good idea to catch the used oil in a clean container. Examine closely for fine pieces of metal and/or other "foreign" substances.
Thanks for the replys, 85w90 was my thought but did not know if there was something lighter that was required. It's driving me nuts! its new and the streets are to full of ice to try this unit out, come on spring!!!! This unit is made by Luyuan in China, have not way of posting a pic as of yet.
The store I am a technician at www.mobilityunlimited.ca sells the Condor that has the 450 watt geared hub motor. Plus I bought a black Condor back in August 2008. Do not use thick gear oil, gear oil is too thick to properly lubricate the internal gears. Use a high quality 10W30 or 10W50 motor oil. If you use the thicker gear oil you may damage the internal gears because the way the motor lubricates the gears is by splashing the oil up into the top of the gear case to lubricate the upper gears. Thick gear oil will not spray high enough to properly lubricate the upper gears inside the gear case. I have been using a high quality 10W30 motor oil in my Condor's gear box all year around with complete success (even in the heaviest of snow storms).

Does anyone know of a reliable online supplier of controllers, 48 v bulbs, and other items for the Luyuan Condor electric scooter? My dealer closed up shop.
