So ive spent alot of time looking for info and think i know what i want to do, but was hoping for expert opinion before i go gung ho. I'll try to make this as painless as possible.
Got a Razor MX400 that says it goes up to 14mph. Has (2) 12v batteries in it. And from research looks like it has a 350w motor. I want it to go faster but nothing to crazy.

So from what i hear adding batteries adds speeds and my stock motor could probably handle it, but hills could be iffy. So was thinking to add 1 more 12v battery to make it 36v and upgrade the motor to 500w @ 36v so would run decent and sounds like i can also keep stock controller although it does start off really slow and in reading changing the controller would change start off speed.
So my questions are these...(keep in mind i didn't major in volts..amps...blah..blah)
1- do i need a 36v charger now since im adding another battery? (found 1 on ebay that will fit stock hookups)
2- should i upgrade my controller?
3- run battery series?
4- getting a 650w motor wouldn't be anymore improvement unless adding more batteries?
5- does my setup sound right? am i missing something?
Any answers are appreciated and excited to get going with this. thanks in advance
If your Controller can handle the added voltage and amperage, you would get about 600-700 watts power from your existing 24 volt motor by adding another battery in series, for 36 volts! The question remains as to whether the stock motor will get too hot running at double the wattage? Perhaps it is worth trying, but keep a close watch for overheating! Yes, a 36 volt charger will be needed, unless you charge each battery separately, with a 12 volt charger. All batteries used in series should be identical, or charging and discharging will result in unequal battery voltage division, with some overcharged/overdischarged, and poor performance.-Bob

thanks. that answers that. I think i will just get the 500w engine then. Its for my boy and dont want it to blow up on him. i'll stick with the original controller as well for now and see how it is. ill be buying the stuff prob today or tomorrow and let you know. thanks rob
So i got the 36v charger and and matching charger dongle in and just waiting for the other 12v battery to show up. I wanted all to match so i just bought another for $30. Here are the before pics and will be updating after i installed the 3rd battery and let you know how it went. Im gonna try to slip it in on top of the other two somehow for a clean looking install behind the fake motor panels. I figure i'll just use the 24v controller and motor until they die if i can. Unless anyone thinks it would be a better idea to just upgrade them.
oh grief. i just added the 3rd battery and dongle and go to turn throttle to test and the controller just clicks. this is how i have it hooked up in the picture. was hoping to run it on the stock 24v controller, but i'm guessing i need a 36v controller now? new battery matches. its a 12v 7ah battery.
