Well heck, lets play what broke on my bike.

Ok bit of a background here

bike is a clone of the xm5000.
21 60ah ts cells
2700 miles on it
today was 80F
The return commute is 27 miles

At mile 25 I pulled into a parking lot and acceleration from a stop was very rough and very low power. If I were to glide the motor acts like it had regen on it and slowed the bike.
Sort of like a 4 cyl engine running on 3.

Stayed at the gym for 45 minutes to see if it was just too hot.

The return trip was the same. Choppy acceleration up to 20 mph and then as if a switch was flipped it smoothed right out and was fine (up to about 42 mph where it went choppy again) so I rode the last 2 miles home between 20 and 40. (No trouble lights on the dash lit up)

Im thinking hall/controller. Im goint to pull the controller apart this weekend to see what I can see.

Anyone else run into this situation and if so how did you fix it.

Secondly anyone have a line on parts heh.

thanks
dex

Re: Well heck, lets play what broke on my bike.

A couple of things for you to check:

1) Check your hall sensor connections. There's a six way plug (with only 5 connectors populate) - check that they're all seated properly and making a good connection.

2) Check the power cables going to the rear wheel. Check the quality of the insulation and see if it's melted through and might be causing a short. When two phases short out you get the "braking effect" which you describe (at least we did when we melted some power wires!)

Good luck - let us know what you find...

Yup im all over it this weekend heh.

I did find a 4 way connector that had a pin (red) that had backed itself out of the motor side of the plug. Pushed it back in and nothing really changed but I havent really dont much troubleshooting yet. Ill do some and get some pretty pictures as well.
Thanks

Re: Well heck, lets play what broke on my bike.

Well, nothing really seems amiss. I had to strip off the shrink wrap on the wire bundle comming from the motor. All the other connections from elsewere are ok. So in stripping off the wrap I found a connector wrapped in electrical tape and wire tied as well. It has 8 connections. 2 that are 5V (+ and - for 4 of them) and 4 others but its difficult to see the colors of the wires everything is so tight. Im thinking this is the hall sensor connection. I called the place I got the scooter from and they say it may be covered under their warranty and they will call back but they didnt call back friday. I am unable to start cutting wires for testing if they are going to say send the controller back and we will try replacing it. So, assuming that I have found the hall connection any thoughts on how to test things? I can post pics if needed but its just a clearish white 8 pin connector with no real markings on it.

Re: Well heck, lets play what broke on my bike.

yes that must be the hall sensors plug.

Theres a purple 2 whites and a blue that go from 0 to 5 volts as the wheel spins

2 +
2 -

And 2 wires (another blue and another purple) that go from 5 to about 4.5V as the wheele spins

So theres

2 purples 1 goes from 0-5 the other 4.5-5
2 blues 1 goes from 0-5 the other 4.5-5
2 whites both go from 0-5 v as wheel spins
2 reds (+)
2 blacks (-)
