Shimano announces the STEPS electric bicycle "group set"

See: Shimano announces the STEPS electric bicycle "group set"

This is a set of parts ("group set") that Shimano appears to mean to sell to bicycle makers. It's a neatly integrated 250 watt hub motor, controller, brakes, bottom bracket, battery pack, etc that it would appear to allow a bicycle maker to just slap on a frame and have an electric bicycle.

The battery pack is a surprisingly small 24 volt 4 ah ...

The real announcement with more details is supposed to happen at the Eurobike conference in September.

Yes.. there's no throttle in the parts set, so the only choice is that it is a pedelec (aka pedal assist) control system.
