This is the first of a series of reports I will make on the installation of a 48V 40AH LiFePO4 Thundersky battery pack kit from Elite Power Systems. I installed this pack in my 48V Evader Scooter, and so far all has gone well. The kit came with cell to cell connectors and associated bolts and washers, along with insulating covers for the connections. The kit also came with a 15 A charger from Thundersky, and the pack is currently charging. I paid $1248 for the kit, which seems to me to be a good buy since the cells are rated for high charging and discharging rates. I have ordered a cheap BMS from China, but it hasn't arrived yet, so for a short while I will operate without one and monitor the voltage on each cell after each ride.
Fitting the cells in the Evader involved some re-arranging of battery containers in the scooter and the cells, which come tied together 4 cells to a harness, and I had to remove all the cells from the harnesses. Wiring up the pack was easy given the hardware provided, and I had to make only a few connectors on my own. The cells come only partially charged and they say not to use them until they have been fully charged, so I will wait until tomorrow AM to take my firs ride.
Today I took the scooter out for an 8 mile ride, well short of the range of 30 miles I expect with this new pack. Everything seems fine and it charged back up very quickly after the ride.
I too have just purchased the 48V 40AH Thundersky pack - with BMS from Australia.
The frame of my trike is still under construction - so I will have to wait a few weeks to test mine out...
I'm using two X5-5302 hubs, and two 100A Kelly controllers...
How powerful is your motor, and what Amperage is your controller???
I will watch this space with keen interest to see your updates.
Poppa Wheelie.
My motor is a 1500 watt brushed motor and the controller will put out up to 65A at 48V. Yesterday I installed a BMS I purchased from Cammy_cc on Ebay. It was pretty easy to install, although it is not meant to handle the high peak currents so I am using it for battery balancing during charging and at rest but I am not running the motor current through it. All seems to work fine as of now.
hi I went with the Vpower off of ebay mine was 48 volt at 30 amp hours
the battery's on the system now are nearing the end of there time and
with the cost being of $360 Canadian for a new set
it's a good thing I bough LiFePo4 battery pack
I just have some wiring to do and I can switch between the sets ,
the math I had dun was suppose to give me 6 time the current range
but the bms if left as is only gives me about 3.5 time more distance
I plan on adding a solar panel and power inverter so I can charge either
batter if I stop some ware or change the battery I am not using wile on the go
as far as i know I would be the first in my city to do this set up ,
I wish the motor had been more magnet based so little or no power would
have been needed and if it had been no power then it could have
recharged just one battery to make things run
you can drop me a note at

Nice post. I googled "elite power systems" with not much luck but ran across "ELITE POWER SOLUTIONS". Looks like some decent stuff. I may shop EPS instead of Ping.
Somehow I'd missed listing them in the Vendor Directory. That's now fixed: http://visforvoltage.org/vendor/vendor-type/9213
