I did a 60 mile test on the bike path and a little stint on the soft sand, will be adding http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOBR-4nRbFw to extend my range for an extreme distance test in the hills.
I ran out of juice at about the 55 mile mark during the test ride and had to pedal home without full electric assist for the last 4-5 miles...the BMS kicked in and out when the batteries ran low...it was quite a work out...standard beach cruisers where passing me left and right as I limped home with my 115lb + bike/trailer.
The ride is a bit noisy due to the mid chain drive system...especailly when compared to the silent direct drive hub motor of my first electric bike http://visforvoltage.org/blog/dennis. Front end is really heavy, can not pop a wheelie at all, but it can roll through bumps like a little tank thanks to the triple crown suspension fork. I plan to change out the hub motor when the Aetoma dies and replace it with a Crystalyte and run it at 72 volts. Imo a little more power is needed and a Schlumpf high speed drive would be useful to enable pedal input at high speeds...not sure if i can get one to fit the long bottom bracket...that's another possible future mod.

Over the weekend, met and rode around town with the innovative designer of http://www.fortunehanebrink.com/ ... http://www.fortunehanebrink.com/general/about/ ...
We started the ride at a good clip up my favorite neighborhood hill to get a good old healthy all natural dose of adrenalin...i'z a junky...50 mph downhill runs are...//www.laymark.com/i/m/m055.gif) ...definitely no lycra clad drafters behind us at that pace //www.laymark.com/i/m/m180.gif)
After lunch continued on a bit at a leisurely pace down the beach side bicycle path to spread the gospel...all in all a fun time...

A really fun ride. can achieve downhill speeds on the flats anytime...gearing enables the hub motor to perform efficiently, reducing high amp draw from the batteries during uphill runs or high speed blasts from a dead stop.

Last week I met a couple guys who are working with Dan Hanebrink to bring the bike to market. Got to look at the bike real closely and ride it a slight bit. Very nice. It looks a lot better in person.

Re: Hanebrink all-terrain electric bike & Aevon offroad ...

I heard from Dan his partners Kane and Colin were at the Plug-In 2010 electric vehicle conference in San Jose during our test ride of the X5303 Fortune Hanebrink prototype. I was told the bike was well received. I never met the partners in person though.

I can't agree more, the 600 Watt hand built fortune Hanebrink is a cool looking fun ride. Were you able to top it out at high gear and jam on the brakes?...that's one of my favorite things to do with them big fat tires...the large contact patch makes them super grippy, they screech like hell when locked up on the pavement and can stop on a dime. It's great to have that much stopping power, especially going 50 mph downhill.

As for the X5303 2880 watt continuous prototype...a bit rough still but what an E ticket adrenalin rush.

We were in the lobby of the McEnry Convention Center ... somehow I don't think the facilities people would have appreciated those kinds of maneuvers being performed in their carpeted hallway ;-) ... I took a simple light duty ride up and down the hallway. The goofy part is I passed behind someone being interviewed on video, so somewhere out there is a video with me riding this funky bicycle in the background.
