I'm having a problem with our BD36 brushed motor.
One of the magnets that are attached to the internal part of the motor has come off.
Any suggestions on how to remove the motor from the housing so I can glue it back on?
Also is there any special glue needed - I'm guessing a good epoxy will do the job?
I'll try to post a picture after work.

Thank you - I did a search and found the thread.
Now all I need to do is figure out how to get the motor assembly out of the hub without destroying it.
I fixed a loose magnet on my BD36 last January. First, I opened the hub motor covering on the side with the power wiring. I previously posted how to do this. Next, you can see that there are 10 magnets spaced around in a circle. Determine which one is loose. Then pull it out with needle noose pliars. You have to clean dirt and grime off of magnet and contact spot (use alcohol or perhaps acetone).
Finally, apply good epoxy to magnet and it's contact/resting spot. Re-install magnet using needle nose pliars.
Wait 24 hrs to see if magent is firmly attached.
These magnets were originally set with epoxy. what happens is that they come loose from using to much voltage
(48 volts) or running too long or hard.
There are other ways to epoxy it back in place which would entail more disassembly of the motor.
My way seemed to work ok.. I sold this kit 3 months ago, however

I really don't want to disassemble the whole motor just to fix it so I can sell the Grandpas trike.
Unfortunately I've gotten pretty good at opening up the motor - his fork opened up and kept slicing the wires into the hub....
What a pain that was. I eventually had to replace the fork....
typically, a magnet gets loose on the bd36 due to overheating. Get a brushless kit and this problem is less likely.
This is a replacement motor on my 92 year old father in laws adult trike who rode it to the golf course 6 days a week. We went with a brushed motor because it had more torque and would move the trike from a stop without him peddling. Eventually we got him his own golf cart. But due to his recent illness, odds are he won't be playing any more golf. So I'm just going to get his trike back into running shape and sell it along with the original motor that he ran for over 2 years.
Although, here's a thought. I have a 26" mountain bike, I wonder if I could put new spokes on a rim and mount the motor on my bike?
Fuzzy, It's possible to buy a failed hub motor with 26" rim and spokes. take the rim and spokes and put it onto the working motor. I've never done it, but it seems like its just a matter of attaching spokes and rim.
You can ask around from ebike dealers here and on endless sphere.
It would be easier just to sell the old kit buy a used 26" kit

Hello, I know this is an old thread, but I am a new member, and read that there is a blog but don't know how to access it. I need to open up my Wilderness Energy BD36 to do repairs (probably magnet related) but don't have any experience so am looking for info' that details how to go about it. See #4 above posted 7/23/10. . Remove screws on wire side. Lift motor cover using knife first then flat head screw diver. Epoxy magnet. rescrew motor cover.
