Check the head tube welds too. One trick for this is to find a wind free area, baby powder the welds, then try to move the forks in unnatural ways, but not with enough force to damage the bike. In theory, if the weld is disturbed, so will the powder over it, leaving a visible line. Note, I've never tried that myself.

I just bought and EVD and it is a lot of fun! It is my first 2 wheeler, so I am currently getting my motorcycle endorsement in IN. I registered the bike at the DOT and like most of the rest, they were confused about the engine size in cc's. After a half hour, they finally called their database folks and had to register a new vehicle type for the EVD.
I've been getting a lot of questions at my office when I tell folks about this, as there apparently are not any other EV's that can do 50 MPH locally.
I just started looking through this forum and left a note on another thread but wondered if anyone here has used a desulphator with this battery setup?
I understand they are supposed to help the battery life.

Well, after nearly 400 miles, I have noticed a very slight wobble in my front tire as well. I want to tighten down on it, but was wondering if I have to take off the entire front body molding to do this, or is it just the plastic handlebar cover to get to this? Anyone who has gotten to this, please explain if you could.

But other than that little bit of wobble, I love the bike. :)

Looks like I will need to replace my controller - I let out some of the magic smoke. I suspect i had a short between phase wires inside a poorly assembled bundle of wires. It was fine until I started twisting and poking around to find the connector for the diagnostic LED wires. I fixed that bad connection, and blew up the controller when I next turned on the breaker switch. Oh well.....

So, I made a detailed list of the wires and labels to help when I get my new controller (I think I will order a Kelly KBS7121 - I added a 6th battery for 72V). Here is my list:

BLC3000 Rev A controller for 6 Phase 3KW hub motor on EVD Scooter

Two identical PCBs

Thick gauge wires:
Thickest RED - Power +
Two black med gauge wires - Gnd

Phase wires - connected to motor windings: Color in controller matches color from motor.

Bike has a separate DC/DC converter for 12V power to lights, horn etc.

The Kelly controller has regenerative braking. I am toying with the idea of adding a backwards left-hand throttle to control regenerative braking.

mass rmv no problim they didnot know what to charge for sales tax was not listed in there computers a the tax dept in boston 149.94 title 75.00 reg 20.00 the only problin severy wabble front wheel when stopping bump in road serfice starts shaking checked nut snuged it willtake ride to see if wobble eamn better 2008 eight model i now have 575 miles on it 17 miles round trip daily to work seems to have taimed wabble bul when brakink well going over a trench patch in rd feels like abs kicking in is it trew these bikes have abs brakes

better replacement battery types?

My RMartin electric scooter UB 12500 BB Battery EB50-12 12v 50Ah Lead Acid Batteries.

I see there are 2 more more powerful battery types on their website:

UB12750 12v 75ah - Electric vehicle battery. Used in many wheelchairs and electric
scooters. Replacement battery for: PS12400, GP12400, LC-X1242P, NP38-12,
PE12V40A, WP38-12, ES40-12

UB12900 12v 90ah - Electric vehicle battery. Used in many wheelchairs and as UPS
batteries.

I wondered if these more powerful batteries could be used in replacement for the EB50-12 batteries to get more power/better distance?
(I assume size is an issue, but assuming they could fit, would they work?)

I am very interested in the outcome of a controller replacement. DId you send these pinouts and wire labelings to Kelly? They have a pretty good applications desk, and they can sometimes malke hards tails of these listings. Please let us know. I so up for a controller replacement.

I'll have a full report when I get the project completed. I have not been able to get the motor specifications. Anyone have any idea what I should set as the max current setting in my controllers?

HI, All!
I bought one of these last May (RMartin EVD, SLA version, blue and white) and it was a lot of fun for a couple months, but it is now a headache.
The original charger died a month ago so I bought a new charger but the bike now only charges up 3/4. (The gauge initially reads high, but quickly drops to 3/4).
I checked each battery with a trickle charger and one of them only held a partial charge.
I am guessing that the old charger must have short-circuited one of the batteries as it died out (it used to really get hot during charging).

Bike still runs, but the motor rumbles when it is running, sounds like it does when the batteries were low on charge.
It has 1100 miles on it and everything else works fine.

It simply is not worth it to me to buy a new battery and fix/maintain this any more.

Anyone interested in buying this make me an offer.
