I found 3.7volt 3000mAh li-ion batteries on ebay for about $2.15 each. If I wired 10 of the 3.7 volt 3000mAh batteries in series I should have a 37 volt 3Ah battery pack. Four of these battery packs wired in parallel will give me 37 volts and 12 Ah. This should power my 36 volt electric bike at a cost of about $85.00. Does this sound right concidering that these battery packs sell for around $500.00?

those 3Ah 3.7v lithium cobalt cells aren't designed for high discharge.
so you won't get any more than 3A continuous out of them.
Soldering them together is a tad on the tricky side, but not impossible.
just make sure you ones with tabs already included.
you could have a crack at spot welding them, if you have the equipment.
spot welding usually takes 4000A for ~5mS IIRC.

I thought they must be an inferior cell for the $. Is there any way to build your own pack and save some $$?
The packs they are selling on line are made up of something like a c cell battery but I can't find them individually.
