XM-4000LI won't start??

Hello,
I just purchased the XM-4000Li, plugged it up and after it was done charging, i turned the key and nothing happened. No red light, no battery gauge movement, no horn, nothing. I turned that switch under the seat from off to on and turned the key again and still nothing happened. I tried to charge it again with that switch being on, it charged for about 20 minutes and then i tried to turn the bike on and again nothing happened. This is crazy. I put in a support ticket to xtreme but i was hoping to hear something back sooner so I'm trying here. any suggestions?

The tech support from X-Treme leaves alot to the imagination. First do you have a volt meter? Pull back the black rubber cover so you can see the batteries. Then measure the voltage across the battery pack. Between the 2 large black cables. Should be around 66 volts. Each battery is about 3.3 volts, they are in series, 20 batteries, about 66 volts. If the batteries are OK, then some other wire in not connected. The tech support is helpful once you get them. Check that the wires to the controller are completely connected.

Re: XM-4000LI won't start??

Thanks for that. My neighbor has a volt meter. He will be home in about 45 minutes so I'll be able to use it once he arrives. But I forgot to mention that the clock on the front seems to work. I think it may have something to do with the fuse but I can't quite find it. On xtreme's site it said it's under the battery cover but i lifted it and I don't see it (unless it's way towards the front, in which case I need to cut the cover). Is the controller that big thing on the side of the bike?

I am not sure about the clock. I have never found that fuse that is talked about. The circuit break controls the power to the wheel. So, with the circuit breaker off you should still get the lights, horn, turn signals, and the red LED. The controller is the big silver box on the side. Under the seat there in front of the circuit breaker is a small black plastic cover, so take out the 2 screws and remove that. Then the storage compartment has four screws, remove those and remove the storage compartment. Remember the sizes on the screws they are different. Also, the charger plug is there, check how it is connected, red to red, A to A.

check the killswithes on the side stand and both brakes.

that tends to be another gotcha.

I used the volt meter and everything is fine with the batteries. All the wires look connected. I'm not familiar with the killswitches on the wide? Where are they? And how do i check the breaks?

Re: XM-4000LI won't start??

Ok, so you got 66V across the battery pack. So, plenty of juice. I have the same bike, XM-4000li. I would not worry or consider the "kill switches". These are a safety switch that turn off the power to the motor when you touch the brakes. Think run-away Toyota. Anyway, these switches will not affect the lights or any other component. So, must be a loose wire somewhere. Get out that crapping wiring harness picture and start tracing those wires. Start with the controller. Touch each and every wire, make sure they are connected. Maybe a light tug or a little wiggle. Check the two small wires coming from the battery pack to the controller. You should be able to get the wiring diagram as a MS doc file from X-Treme, that will allow you to zoom 200% to see all the detail a little better.

I was reading another post here where a the motor was not working correctly. He got X-Treme to send another motor, so he started taking apart the wiring to the controller and motor and found several wires were inserted into the connector but fell out when he touched it. These things are made in China and we assume that they have the same quality as Japan, Korea, or US. They don't. China manufacture of Chinese products is like Japan in the 50's quick and cheap. If the wires appear to be connected, SHIP IT!

Re: XM-4000LI won't start??

Ok I found out why it won't start. It was the key start (part 24 on the diagram). Maybe it was too obvious because you stick the key in and turn it and nothing happens. Well that was the peice that doesn't work because when you bypass it, the bike turns on.

New issue:
I drove it this morning and went about 5 miles and noticed the red blinking light. It was fully charged so I'm curious why the battery is draining so quickly. When I parked, the battery gauge was about at 75% (halfway between medium and high). I know the batteries are putting out the recommended voltage. I think someone else had this same issue. I'll try to find out what they did.
