Does anyone know what's going on with X-Treme? For over a week, they have not answered their phone, they have not charged any orders, nor have they shipped anything out to their customers. I have "heard" that they were supposed to be closed last week due to "inventory" and would return this week, but it looks as if they still are not (not answering phones, not responding to emails, nothing be charged or shipped). Does anyone know what's going on?

Last time I talked with them, they said not to buy a XM-X000 until late spring as they were getting a new (might actually work) BMS system. So my guess is they are waiting for the new inventory, but that is only a wishful positive slanted guess.

I have never heard of a company who encourages a customer not to buy a certain product - interesting. All I know is that they have nothing on their website indicating anything about them being closed. They have nothing on their voicemail indicating that they are closed, and they are not responding to emails. Who closes for inventory anyway? How could they let over a week and counting of customer warranty issues, not processing any orders, etc go by without any notification whatsoever? Are there any dealers out there for them that have any info about this?
try these folks:

Applewood1,
You're right the company did not use those exact words so my apologies to you and them. I should have used their words, "If I was going to buy a new bike and I could wait, they were coming out with an improved BMS sometime in spring and I might want to buy then".
I gave you my interpretation of what I had been told. My take is either a BMS is idiot-proof and protects your investment in batteries or it doesn't; there is no gray area. If they are coming out with an improved BMS, it means to me that the old version didn't work well enough. But that is just one person's view.
The good thing about many E-bikes is that they are modular and we can, if we have to, repair/upgrade them unlike many other consumer products.
Good luck,

Hey,
I pinged one of the dealers and got a very nice and complete reply. They are CLOSED for inventory. I have an XM-4000, recieved last Aug. So, IMHO, there will be no BMS on any of the XM-4000 or XM-5000 as those were manufactured in 2009. If they come out with a new model XM5840?? then maybe. What I have figured out is there are several dealers that you buy the scooters from. They send a message/money to Green Max in Iowa who then ships and supports your scooter. Green Max is just a big warehouse that gets these from China and stacks them. The other dealers, Scooter Catalog, Electric Vehicle Mall, Advanced Electric Scooters, or... They are just a web presence or web store front. If you really want some complete info contact a few dealers and decide which dealer you like.
Anyway, here is a very nice response from Electric Vehicle Mall:
Here are the facts as I know them. Green Max Distributors, dba X-Treme Scooters, was closed last week for “inventory”. Last winter, in Feb as I recall, they closed for 2 1/2 weeks to count inventory, file parts in the right bins, etc. The year before, the same thing. They are definitely not out of business.
They did advise all their dealers by email each time of their plans. Only customers trying to deal directly with X-Treme rather than going through dealers would not know this.
Yes, there was no message on their voice mail because, with the phone system they have, it is apparently difficult and expensive to change voice mail messages. I don’t know why, only that this is the case.
Anyone trying to reach them today, was going up against a backlog of dealer calls and other business. Each winter because of lower sales volume, they apparently operated with reduced staffing which makes it harder to get through to anyone.
It is best to find a reputable and knowledgeable dealer, such as Electric Vehicle Mall, that has a good relationship with Green Max, who has their own technical expertise to help you, and who is willing to expedite matters with the Green Max on your behalf when you’re having trouble on your own.
Re the XM-4000Li, by my observation, what you get for your money is phenomenal! But, yes, I would also like to see (and expect) a BMS on the next batch of XM-4000Li’s. But, sales of motorcycles in general have not been good for a while so that I don’t look for Green Max to get an upgrade in again until warm weather has firmly set in.
Feel free to contact me with any other questions.
Best regards,
Rod Jenkins

C'mon guys, who in the 21st century closes for 'inventory'?
What, they don't know what stock they have? What kind of Mickey Mouse (apologies to Walt) outfit are you dealing with?

my take is:
they make no money from warranty claims/work.
if they dont have *bikes* in stock (waiting for a large order to arrive?) why pay sales people to hang around and answer phones when staying closed would cost nothing?

I'm not sure what you're saying Matt. Do you believe that as improters they only open for business when each shipment arrives. What do the staff eat in the meantime, or are you saying there is an endless supply of experienced trained sales staff for the products who like to work only when the ship comes in?
Maybe you are right. The importer may indeed be just a one or two person business and act simply as a clearing house to the dealers.
Still.....

It's not as uncommon as you might think...
