Energy monitors?

Hey guys,

I am looking at some electricity monitors and narrowed it down to a couple... basically the Efergy E2 (energysaver.net.au) and the OWL Micro CM130 Wireless. Both look pretty good, but I figured I should ask around, see what other people think of them.

Anybody here been using any of these, or other?

Cheers mates.

Re: Energy monitors?

Gday Dave,

I guess first question is, what are you planning on measuring?

energy usage of your entire house? (efergy is ok for this)

or just individual loads?

The efergy only measures Amps, but not volts, so the displayed power can be out by +- 10% as it just assumes you are getting 230v.

I have tested a few meters here:

Re: Energy monitors?

I am using an Efergy HM01 to monitor my house since a few weeks. Got it from Bunnings, I think.

It seems to work well, but I have not done any objective testing. The measurement results are in the right ballpark and allow me to understand when my generator would be overloaded and when solar panels would produce more than I use momentarily.

Very interesting to see how much power is still being used when you think you have turned everything off....something always seems to keep on running! A most educational tool....

This information may be used entirely at your own risk.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the input. How much energy did it help you guys save though?
Did you use it in combination with some other device or appliance?
I'm thinking maybe just common sense would do, you know...

Re: Energy monitors?

Hey David,

I have actually tried both and the Efergy E2 is definitely more worth it.
I bought mine from a retail store though, not online – I've checked the link you posted and the price seems pretty good.

All in all, the Efergy E2 is a pretty cool tool. All you need is to clip the sensor around the feed cable of your electricity meter and connect the sensor to the transmitter. Press the "link" button and that's it!

Hope it helps,
Jon.

Hi David,

I remembered I bought my Efergy E2 from that website, enerygsaver.net.au with a discount coupon code - I think it might still be valid.
Check it out : ES351408
Their price seems one of the best one in Australia anyhow, I'd say buy it and give it a shot. It's really helpful - at least for me it was.
