e-max Sports parts and batteries

Hi I have recently acquired an e-max sports here in Perth, Western Australia.
Upon taking it apart I have found the 8 batteries
12V 20aH Silicone are all bloated and dead.

Any ideas if I can replace with lead acid batteries?

I can get some SLAs for it which are close to the same size but the
terminals are only 2mm copper tags - not sure if these will be ok for current?
Also if sla is even an option.

Also I need the right hand turn indicator lens.

If anyone has the pdf of the circuits and manual that would be appreciated.

I would really like to get it going.

The "silicone" battery is really just a type of lead-acid gel cell, so yes, you can use any kind of lead-acid battery. The copper tags, called NB (nut-and-bolt) terminals, will work fine, just a little more work to connect than threaded insert terminals.

There are a lot of issues with the e-max in the stock battery configuration and charging arrangement. Spend some time going all the way back reviewing the the e-max forum topic. The best batteries are "high rate of discharge type" like the Power Sonic PSDH 12180FR.

You may want to consider Thundersky 40AH lithium cells and an appropriate battery management system. I still use the original blue-box chargers with my Thundersky arrangement. You get at least a 180% improvement in range, and the longer life (if a BMS is used) more than offsets the higher cost.

I can get the gell cells for about $300 aussie so think I might go with that.

I don't know how to find more info on stock battery configuration and charging you mention - can you help me with this at all?

I would ideally like to find the pdfs on wiring, etc but all the links are dead - any ideas on this?

Any ideas on where I can get a spare indicator lens (back right hand)
I am in australia but i guess can order from oseas with a bank deposit?

Hi Malser,

you're right in my neighbourhood (I live North of the river, in Nollamara, where are you located?)

I have owned many an Emax sport (my Lithium one did 22'000km before falling apart around me).

Gel batteries in general are poorly suited to a traction application (battery currents are too high).
how bad is battery specific, what were the batteries you were quoted $300 for?

continuous discharge rate on a stock bike is ~45A continuous, 75A when accelerating.

i put the red wires together and put 4 batterys together to 48v and the black ground to the neg today and it ran but the kickstand has to be up
