XB-700li Bloated Battery

I purchased an XB-700li in October 2008 and used the unit, daily, until May 2009. Since then the unit has been stored away. The battery has also been stored inside the home in an area that is - well - room temperature.

The battery had NOT been charged on a monthly basis. This year I decided to bring the bike out again. When I went to get the battery I noticed it was 'bloated'. After speaking with a sales rep. she advised me to check the physical batteries themselves.. I opened the battery and removed the green wrapping. Each of the batteries at the end where the circuit boards are located are distended.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Re: XB-700li Bloated Battery

After getting a response from X-Treme;

"Unfortunately you battery needs to be replaced, if the battery is not charged monthly the cells can drop below the center voltage of 3.2vdc or lower.

This will cause gases to build and distort or bloat the battery pack.

I recommend not using this battery pack as it can become unstable."

So it seems a replacement is in my future - now to find one....?

From what I can find this seems to be the best replacement

http://www.pingbattery.com/servlet/the-12/48V-15AH-V2.5-LiFePO4/Detail

But is it? $100 cheaper than X-Treme, but just as good?

Thanks for that information and the response from X-Treme. That's actually good to know.
I'm still on the older XB-610, but I have considered the 700li.
