Hey I'm wondering how I can use a multimeter to test the battery level. Which setting should it be on, and which two terminals in the round jack do I need to touch it to?
Also, I'm wondering about installing a permanent volt meter, with a gauge on the dash, to work somewhat like a fuel gauge and tell me exactly how much charge I have left. has anyone done this? is it possible?
thanks!

I measure the open circuit voltage. In my case (4 12V SLA Silicon gel batteries) the nominal voltage is 48V and it is a DC voltage. I measure the series voltage through the charging plug. After charging it indicates about 53,5V or 13.35 V per battery.
After a ride I sometimes measure the voltage again to have an idea of the DOD. The DOD can easily be calculated from the technical information on the battery.

I recommend a cycle analyst:

an Ah counter is more effective at determining remaining capacity than voltage alone.

cool that helps. Do you know which holes in the plug I should measure? They're numbered 1-6 and its round. is that like yours at all?
thanks
