righto,
that looks like theres lotsa head room for upgrades.

go for 72v in that case, its alot more common voltage.

you only get a hotter motor if you use the extra voltage to increase your top speed.
id suggest putting a temp sensor on your motor so you know when to back off.

Yes. I wondered about that. Ideally it would be fitted inside the housing but it's not obvious how to get it to bits (I tried undoing the ring of allen bolts when I had the wheel off to fix sticking brake) but it wouldn't come off. And the hollow axle already looks _very_ full of wire so I very much doubt that I could get temp sensor wires down there. So is sticking a sensor on the outside of the axle good enough? Presumably it needs to be insulated a bit so you are measuring the wheel and not the air?

And how hot is 'too hot'?

I guess I should look round here and E-S and the UK-based forum I've just found: http://electricmotoring.forumup.co.uk/ for relevant info. The only catch with going for 72V is even _more_ expensive batts...

Re: Erato 1500W batteries going down

something i forgot earlier,

the controller logic side is powered via a internal DC-DC.
this DC-DC has a finite operating range, it might be worth checking to see if this can run from 72v, or if it can be powered from a subset of the pack.

if its not possible to put a thermometer in, its ok.
motor temperature is something you will have to get a feel for, its different for every bike design.

Impossible to tell without just trying if the dc-dc converter will take 72V nominal. However there is a cheap solution to that problem documented here: http://www.kickasscity.com/upgrade_guide_part2.html (just use an AC 12V 10A supply!).

I did some research on which batts will fit, costs and availability.

I can get 24 Foxx 20Ah cells in (but sticking up 18mm more than existing batts, which is just about OK), or 48headways. I might be able to fit 60 headwyas in, but then I'd probably have to do without formers.

For 72V 20Ah, foxx weighs 22.8Kg and costs £416+£139 shipping plus £73 tax
headway weighs 16.3Kg, costs £688 plus similar shipping and £120 tax.
Then plus another £140 for a G/F 24 cell BMS.

Foxx cells are much easier to assemble into a pack (no paralleling, prismatic shape, vetically mounted)
Headways would make it easy to reconfigure as 48V 30A for longer range, and are lighter.

headways have better high-current capacity, but my controller won't put out more than 50A and the Foxx cells will do 60 continuous so with the existing setup either should be fine. It's not clear that it's really worth spending 30% more for the headways and more hassle.

That shipping hurts and I'm starting to wonder if there is a UK source of these cells somewhere. I'm going to do a little bit more research before forking out.

yes i have a swish 1500w moped that uses 12v 38ah greensaver batterys
i just brought this bike of ebay and found that the batterys were bulging and need new ones
if you have a contact number for this person in london that would be good as i could not find them anywhere

I guess you are in the UK? I never bought a replacement SLA set - I moved to Lithium (and don't regret it at all). You could try the Electric Transport shop: http://www.electricbikesales.co.uk/ who are helpful people. There are also ebay SLA suppliers, but you do need to get cells which have a high-enough discharge rate for scooters.

Can you give battery box dimensions, info on what the batts say on the side, or any other clues to who actually manufactured your 'Swish 1500W' that will help us work out what batteries are suitable. I guess it's this lot: http://www.swishbikes.com/specifications.htm Do you have an 05 or an 02?
