I have a BD24 brushed kit for about three years with little hours on it...I need to know if I need new batteries or brushes in the motor. After finding the battery unhooked I rehooked it and the wheel turned for about 20 seconds, then on and off when lever is depressed a pulsating noise is coming from the motor hub. Every time I hook the charger to the batteries the light is always green. What do you think it might be?

It's likely one of your brushes is worn or brush contact is prevented by a jammed spring that's supppose to keep brush in place. You can test battery pack with a multimeter to make sure you have some voltage.
You can also bypass the controller and plug a 12volt battery into wheel wiring plug to see if wheel will spin around. Make sure axle is attached to forks.
These ways help you determine whether it is hub, batteries or controller.
Pk, I tried hooking one battery directly to wheel and it didn't do anything, then tried the other battery and it spun just fine...So I guess hub motor is ok , but when I hook both batteries together charger is green, with just the battery that worked on the hub only the charger is flashing amber. Could the one bad battery cause the whole unit to not work? I am seeing if the one battery turns green after charging. Not sure if this has anything to do with the controller>>>
Check your wiring related to the charger and batteries . If charger is green, it's typically either finished charging or cannot charge because of a wiring contact problem. A wire could be pinched or cut somewhere. Did you correctly wire the 2 batteries in series?
It seems that one of you batteries is dead. Another thing you can do is pick up a 12 volt charger and recharge each battery separately. JL
The controller wiring looks ok, it was always kept in a zippered bag under the seat. I am still not sure if the charger or controller and batteries are the problem..I hooked the one good battery to the controller and the put the charger the bike came with to it and it just blinks a redish orange color and thats it. Should one battery run the controller? Is the charger ok? STill the one battery hooked directly to the hub turns it just great.
It's probably not the controller. You need maybe 20 to 22 volts minimum going through controller;otherwise, you'll get a low voltage cutout (LVC). You probably have a mere 13 volts running through controller. I'd bet that's why it cuts out or doesn't work. Charger should be fine (with a good pack), too.

Of course, go with the lower price since they are identical. 2 deep cycle batts will be fine. Make sure you don't buy standby alarm/computer type backup batteries. They are not for deep cycle.
