XB-700 Li 2010 Problems

After ordering the XB-700Li 2010 Edition from a trusted website, the bike came perfectly working and in new condition except for one key thing - The battery. After reading around this forum, I have discovered the probable source of the problem is that it has become "bloated". Likely that it was just sitting in some warehouse until it was needed for a delivery. So the batteries dropped below a certain voltage level and became unstable and shut itself down. Although when the battery is fully charged, I am able to get about a half an hour use out of it before all systems fail. Everything appears in new condition except for the battery, so am I entitled to some warranty replacement? Will I have to send it in, which would be a real pain!!! Also nearing the control box, there are two wires that have nothing to plug into, one grey and one multicolored, possible problem? I'll keep updated if I receive any answers. I was really looking forward to a really extensive use, but there seem to be no other problems so far. Any help would make me more then happy!!

Battery warranties are usually shorter than the 'main' warranty on EVs, but they do usually have one. Contact the dealer *now*.

Thanks for the response, I sent in an early support ticket and I am still waiting for the "technician" to reply...

Re: XB-700 Li 2010 Problems

A recent reply from the technician suggests sending the battery and charger directly to them is a more sensible option. I don't feel like waiting such a long time seeing that I already waited so long for the vehicle to get here. Any input or possible things to look out on the XB-700Li would be much appreciated..

Here's the reply:

You can send your batteries and charger to us for testing or perform the tests below and let us know your results.

Below you find instructions for checking the output voltage of your batteries and charger.

These are preliminary tests and additional troubleshooting may need to be performed by Green Max distributing on models with Lipo-4 or Limn. batteries.
___________________________________________________
How To Check Charger Output:
Tools Needed - Multimeter set to DC voltage.

- Determine the total DC voltage output of your scooter and set the multimeter Above that amount.

- Plug the charger into a 110v outlet, but do not plug it into the scooter.

- Place the multimeter probes into the holes to the left and right of the indented key on the charger output side (connector that goes to the scooter).

* Attention: Do Not allow the two probes to touch each other while in the charger socket as it may cause a short and/or spark.

- This will give you the charger output reading to compare with what your scooter requires.
______________________________________________________
How To Check Battery Voltage:
1) Charge your batteries until fully charged or up to eight (8)hours.

2) Let them set a minimum of one (1) hour.

3) Check each battery with a Digital Voltmeter, each battery should have at least 12.6 vdc.

Lipo-4 or Limn batteries are tested as a complete battery pack.(Not individually).

The voltage for the xb700-Li should be around 52-56vdc.

4) Reply to this ticket with the voltage of each battery and we will respond with the next step as needed.

________________________________________________________
Battery Exchange/Return Procedure:

Green Max Distributors will load test batteries to determine their ability to hold a charge. If the battery fails the test then those covered under warranty will be replaced. If they are not under warranty you will notified to decide on replacements. If they pass the test the batteries will be returned.

We must first receive batteries before warranty replacements will be sent.

Shipping Procedures:
- Print a copy of this Support ticket.

- Go to the below link:

http://www.x-tremescooters.com/services/returnform.html

and Print out a Parts Return Form. Be sure to fill it out completely and return the form and a copy of your Support Ticket along with the batteries to the address below (I removed for security measures)

-Place "Attention" and the "Ticket Number" on the outside of the package.

- Pack the batteries and forms in a box with bubble wrap or Styrofoam to protect them during shipping.

- You may also include your Battery Charger if you would like to have it tested together with the batteries.

- Obtain a tracking number for your package.

- Allow 10 - 14 days for processing

Re: XB-700 Li 2010 Problems

If you can test the batteries and charger, by all means do so. A better plan, though, might be to test the charger (easy to do) and just *assume* that it's the batteries if the charger checks out, and remove them. You can then test them while out of the bike. I don't know how hard it is to remove and replace your battery pack, but I'm guessing that you will soon know how...

Re: XB-700 Li 2010 Problems

Thanks, Even though I'm pretty sure the battery is the main source of the problem, ill probably just test it first to really make sure. If I send it to them first and it turns out that it might be the controller instead, I would have wasted all this time and have gotten no use out of the scooter at all.

Re: XB-700 Li 2010 Problems

While you're doing preliminary tests, check terminal tightness on every battery terminal. They can get loose, which allows corrosion and resistance, which can in turn lead to enough voltage drop that the low voltage cutoff becomes active.

Wow, that sounds like something worth trying, but in the end I thought it over and sent in the battery pack and charger for testing Friday Morning. I'll definitely keep updated and see if I can get a response from X-Treme Scooters in a few days. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Re: XB-700 Li 2010 Problems

There are two unplugged wires in mine as well. I discovered this after I had to fix a flat tire. I was really happy that the seat lifted off so easily so I could get at the wiring. I do not charge my battery while it is in the bike. I prefer to take it out and charge it that way. You can not overcharge it because the charger shuts down. I noticed that if I keep the battery connected to the bike and charge it that way then the charger keeps cycling on and off when the charge is complete. I think this is because the controller is constantly connected to the battery even when the key is turned off. I noticed that there is one line in the schematic that is connected directly to the controller and does not appear to have any disconnect from the battery. I have had my bike for almost a year, So far the battery is ok. I get good range and speed out of the bike so far. I am really happy with the low maintenance and ease of operation. I never store the battery outside the temperature extremes might damage it. Not sure but why not be safe rather than sorry. I am sure you can find batteries for this unit other than from the Xtreme, but it is not going to be easy and would require an engineering degree and a lot of patience. It's a matter of placing them in the right order to obtain the correct current and voltage. Battery technology is improving every year. Hope you might find this useful.

Re: XB-700 Li 2010 Problems

I am once again attempting to reach out to the community in search for answers. This piece of S%&@ bike has had the motor completely broken for a very long time. I was told the motor sensor could be broken. 1, how would I go about fixing this. And 2, would I need to buy another motor, and would it be under warranty and how the F%#@ do I install it back, thanks.
