Hi! I am looking at purchasing or fixing my existing standard batteries for my 2007 Vectrix that failed on the gateway bridge!
Vectrix USA have not quoted but are willing to ship in bulk as they have some left from Li conversions.
I am struggling for support here in Oz and I am looking at a few options....
Any ideas???!?
Hiya,
Welcome to the forum,
based on the gateways bridge reference, presumably you are in Brisbane?
I have quite a collection of the original nimh batteries.
A battery composed entirely of good cells (all tested) second hand is $1400 delivered to your nearest depot.
If you would like to have a crack at testing your own, replacement 8 or 9 cell blocks cost $250 shipped (all good cells tested).
if you only have a couple of dead cells, you can get away with simply shunting them out.
Another option is to convert to lithium for $4000
One of the guys who has recently done a Lithium conversion lives in Brisbane...

Wow! Who are you talking to at Vectrix USA? I have yet to see the conversion to Li offered by the company. I am still looking just for a center stand... That's good news.

Hi
I am in Brisbane, I have seen a few Vs around town over the years, I saw a silver one parked in Turbot st a while ago, maybe that was yours. I had quite lot of equipment I used to recondition my V battery last year, but I lost all of it in the floods earlier this year. I have had my bike for nearly 4 years now and it still does the job I bought it for. I have had it down to pretty much every last nut and bolt as I had to weld the frame after a traffic accident. I live over St lucia Way. What is your bike doing ? Your battery might not be as bad it looks.
Hey Tony,
it was fine...:) I get a charge that is equivalent to half and then under load it will drop to 0 charge.
I am in the process of getting the batteries out..would love some advice of how to pull it apart as I started looking at it last night
Cheers,
Eddie
Have a look at my video:

I haven't covered pre-charge when re-installing a nimh battery, but I usually remove a interconnect in the top layer, then connect the MC, then put a light globe across the interconnect to do precharge before replacing (ligth globe must remain while replacing the interconnect).
Btw - If you buy a 10mm ratchet spanner from bunnings ($10) it makes undoing the nuts on the threaded rod 10x easier.

Matt...
What a video. Just what I needed, you have saved me a few hours.
Thanks again
Eddie
I left my mobile number in your Private Mail. There are a few small tools you will need and a few you might want. I still have my small torque wrench if you need it...and a decent 4 digit multimeter will make your life bit happier. And do follow Miks example, keep good records and take heaps of pics before you disaseble. If it hasn't been done, you should order a 200A fuse and fit it while you have it in bits. I doubt your battery is even really bad, it doesn't take many bad cells to cause what you have descibed.
This was my reconditioning rig last year..
Give me a call if you want to chat about it.
