Re: E+ bike review.

Here is review.
BTW, Don how are you. I must admit purchase from you of HPS was one of the best $750 spent in my life. HPS still work as new and no sign of quitting.
I bought 1000W E+ kit almost 5 months ago.
I mounted that kit on Biria bike.
I had initial problem with kit which was cogging/jerking/pulsing of motor.
This was taken care of by EMS manufacturer rather quick under warranty.
I must admit from research on Google it is clear that was ISOLATED problem and I never met anybody with similar problem.
And I spent hours reading about E+ !!!
As with every technical thing there is good and there is bad,
so if anybody think that I flame here by critizing product is oversensitive and plain wrong and paranoid on his part.
.
Some critize with bit of passion and this is not flaming, some forgot that things have to be named as they are.

E+ is wonderful machine,no doubt the best motor/controller built in on the market right now.
I will mostly compare E+ with Tidal Force bike which I own for many years,
Tidal Force is a legend by itself for legendary reliability and smoothness.
In some aspects E+ is better in some worse than TF.
First efficiency. Going 45km/hour on flat, 1.95 tires pumped to just 50PSI no wind E+ draws less than 1000W from battery!!!
Motor of E+ is noticable lighter than TF. and visable smaller/thinner/.
However not as silky smooth when it runs as TF - TF is seven phase design, E+ is only 3 phase design.
3phase improve efficiency but makes motor less smooth.
Throttle is much more linear on E+ and ery well modulated, it far, far cry from Chinabrand crap and even better than TF - pleasure to operate.
I found E+ very, very inviting for peddaling, in some point while pedalling at over 45km/hour you fall insome kind of rythm with motor.
The biggest drawback of E+ is chemistry of battery - NMH which rather belong to museum.
with this battery comes radiculously long charging of 5 hours on average of which at least ONE hour is balancing stage.
30 cells in series with petty 1.2V for each cell cannot compete with 12 cells in series of Lithium for the same 36V.
If every NMH has even only 5 miliOhms of internal resistance=that;s 150mOhms for 30 cells in series!!!
It doesn't take Electrical Engineer to realise that E+ waste energy namely Wattshours on heating those Nickel cells, because internal cell resistance is like resistor connected in series with actual cell.
NMH cell hub battery is estimated at 500 charging cycles,
I wrote this and I am going to repeat - rebuilding hub battery every 3-4 years is an economical nonsense. Period. When you have all those Lithium available which easly lasts 10 years.

Re: E+ bike review.

The big key to great Cells is a great Chemist. The Cells you purchased from LiFeBATT (HPS) were made by our Chief Scientist when he was still associated with PSI. Now we have the benefit of his new Cells which are 18Ah Prismatic - even better and more powerful than the 10Ah Green Cells you purchased years ago in a Pack. We only sell Plug & Play Packs as you know. Have a look at our updated website for more information when you go to replace these anemic NIMH Battery Packs.

Re: E+ bike review.

About E+again.
What I miss to mention are 9 power levels and 9 regen levels of E+.
Tidal Force has only NORMAL and TURBO settings. TF throttle is much less linear than E+ and you really have to watch to feather throttle to save power.
On E+ you just set power level to 2 out of 9 and you really don't have to watch how you apply throttle.
