how to buy replacement battery 36V 13ah Li-MnO2

My wife loves her electric bike and would love to be able to use it again, but I can't find a way to replace the battery. After replacing the motor and the battery insides and running it off another battery, we've concluded that the problem must be in the battery case itself. It's one of those semi-standard ones, tall and fits behind the seat tube, silver and black with a locking pin and slides down over an aluminum channel. Similar picture hopefully attached

We haven't seen cases at all, so we're willing to buy a whole battery with the right specs, which are:

36V 13AH Lithium Manganese Oxide Li-MnO2 9.5 lbs/4.3Kgs

Can anyone help us find such a battery? Thank you!

Hi,

Do you know how to use a voltmeter? If yes, there should be two contacts on the outside of the case that mate with contacts on the bike frame.. Verify that it shows the correct voltage across these output contacts. If no voltage, repair the case as a broken wire between the battery and the contacts might be the problem. Also, did you verify that all fuses in the case are good?

Thanks for the response, IBScootN. I think you are right, there's a bad connection in the case. The symptom is intermittant cutting in and out of power, using the original case and a new battery pack. I'm working with a guy who does know something about these things and he was able to hook up an alternate external battery and get the bike to run without cutting out, so that suggests it's not the controller itself. Your suggestion about testing the voltage across the case would confirm this, or maybe isolate it further. I hadn't thought about trying to fix the wiring in the case itself and I'll ask him to look at it and see if it's accessible. Thanks for the idea.

I'm still interested if anyone has a good source for ebike batteries like this. I'd be willing to try a substitute (LiPo? different amps?) if it would fit and work. I looked at the vendors of this forum, but might be missing something. It does seem like the availability and accessibility to key parts is a critical element of an emerging ebike market. Any other ideas anyone?

I forgot, yes, we did look at the fuse and it seems whole. Also, it does produce power some of the time.

Hello snowonder; You can find the exact battery replacement at: www.batteryspace.com which is AA Portable Power Corporation and their telephone number is: 510-525-2328 Ask them about product ID 6059 which retails for $476.00. if you find that you need to replace that battery. I have no affiliation with the company at all but they have an excellent selection of every type of battery that you could want or need. Hope this is of help to you all.

Most likely the contacts on the case are not making good contact with the bike. Your friend can probably trouble shoot that and maybe bend the contact to improve the connection. Once you get it working reliably again, lightly coat the contacts with some dielectric grease to provide some weather resistance.

Wow. Thanks friends. This is the contact I was looking for, and your suggestion on the repair option is also very helpful. This forum rocks. I will repost my results for the curious. And I'll be back to participate in the forum.
