Dead Vectrix on Ebay australia

Hi all

I've just bid on this vectrix

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230674883166

I only read that its got dead batteries - somehow i missed the fact that it died terminally before he let the batteries die.

Anyone know who it is or its history ? I'm waiting on a reply from the seller on that front right now.

If i can get this cheap enough and can fix whatever made it die in the first place - could make a good lithium conversion candidate

However I am in NZ and it is in Aussie so there's a minimum of $800 of shipping costs on top of whatever i get it for (if i end up with it) so if there are any forum people who are based in Aussie that want it and dont want me to bid any higher let me know as i've only bid to $500 odd so far and although its cheap - its still dead and i wont want to spend a lot on it without knowing its repairable.

Thoughts ?

Re: Dead Vectrix on Ebay australia

The description reads like a dead MC card to me. To put it in perspective, I paid $700 for a brand new vectrix sans batteries, charger and a dead MC card thrown in the deal.

Re: Dead Vectrix on Ebay australia

Hi,
I bought it.
Got it for $600 in the end, I think that's a fair price since there is some risk.
Obviously don't know what is wrong with it, I'll try to get it working as as it but I will probably do a lithium conversion anyway and I'm in no hurry.
I have two mates with Vectrixs, so they have some experience. Worst outcome would be that I just bought $600 worth of spare parts for them.

Re: Dead Vectrix on Ebay australia

Glad to hear it. I thought long and hard about buying for parts irrespective.

So... if you end up selling parts let me know - i'd be interested in at least the forks and possibly other parts.

Cheers

Chris

If it ends up a parts bike, I'd be interested in some bits as well, I also thought about buying this one, but the minister of finance wasn't all that pleased about another bike in the garage in pieces :oP

Re: Dead Vectrix on Ebay australia

There is another on ebay.com.au at the moment too - i looked and bid last night then realised that i am just dreaming at the moment due to complete lack of funds and therefore it would be folly of me to bid any higher.

however looks a goodun - just dead batteries ?

That could be tricky,
I'm still testing up the battery (I have 6 complete batteries that need to be tested through with another 2 on the way)

is the seller up for swapping the battery before shipping it off? (might be a little galling to fix the bike just after selling it cheaply....:D )

Matt

I doubt that - unless the item description is incomplete / fraudulent.

From the info provided, the battery does not need to be swapped, just charged slowly.

I was just thinking, wouldnt that toast their marshmallows if someone showed up with a Freddie, and after 15 minutes it was ready to boot? :-)

Re: Dead Vectrix on Ebay australia

I agree with sensei MIk, that battery only needs a slow recharge with an external charger.

was left for months with out chargeing and now will not start or charge

The owner was really careless... He let the bike go undervoltage!

Its around 50/50, but always best to check first :(

If the battery is not good, it generally means that several cells were held reversed for a long period of time, causing substantially increased self discharge.

I have seen two bikes do this that have gone flat.
%60 of the cells self discharge to 0v in 2-3 days.....

but easy enough to test for before buying another battery

But, did it sell?? It doesn't say 'sold' anywhere.

I'm not familiar enough with ebay to be able to tell.

Well, considering there's probably nothing wrong with it, I think that's quite a bargain.

Re: Dead Vectrix on Ebay australia

Yep, you got me.

The beloved V is reliable again and range is a steady 30km.
Trying to sell to finance an upgrade to a long distance dyno-juice bike.
Gave it a red hot go and commuted happily for 24K km and nearly 4 years, but still feel the need to go further. Even the Li upgrade enabled by antiscab is not enough.
Wish the Brammo or Zero S was available in Tassie, but alas we are a small market and not worth consideration by the big boys. I will go for an efficient second hand BMW of some sort.

Cheers

Paul
