I recently lost all of the 12 volt functions (lights, horn, signals, etc) on my Zapino. Electric motor and charging still work fine. When it first occurred the mechanic at Zap in Santa Rosa suggested a bad ground somewhere but I have been unable to locate it. The new mechanic there does not seem very familiar with the Zapino - anyone have a clue where/how to locate the problem?

Support V is for Voltage
Take a volt meter and check for battery voltage at the input to the dc/dc converter. If that is ok, then check the output of the dc/dc converter for around 12-13v. If no 12v output then the converter needs to be repaired ( maybe just an internal fuse) or the output is shorted (remove the output load and see if it starts to output a voltage). If you have 12v coming out of the converter, then follow those lines to where the voltage is lost and you will have found the problem area. Might be a bad converter, fuse, or open/or shorted wires.

IBScootn - Just realized I never got back to you. Thanks for the direction. Found a shorted wire between the converter and fuse and successfully repaired. Back on the road!
I am always going through 12 volt converters on my XM-3000 and XM-3100 so maybe you have same issue. I don't mind it some times till I need to turn and then notice it and have to use hand signals. I verify that the DC-DC is out by putting kick stand down and if the bike goes then no 12 volt on Motor Speed Controller. I have a trunk on my scooter and I put in a 12 volt battery for lights and turn signal that can last for 5 or 6 hours easy.When I charge my scooter I take out the yellow Thunder Sky battery and bring it inside to charge properly. Expensive battery!!! I have two monster cables locking front and rear wheels via Krytonite locks and 2 Xena alarms. No matter I put replacement DC-DC converters they fail so I now do the battery route. Some where I put color code on visforvoltage of converter but one is common one is 60 volt or so and other is low voltage 11 to 12 volt or so. Sort of an easy fix if you go that route. If I need to charge LiFePO4 battery I do have Anderson power poles on 60 volt ckt to give me temporay power but it is there for one reason only ~ HAM RADIO power and maybe fast charging. I do believe I have an intermittent short some where but when I used Thunder Sky battery power for lights I never have had any light failures as of yet. Maybe I have a bad ground too? I would tend to think you have a defective DC-DC. Water is not a good thing for those puppies. Every one I took apart is filled with moisture. White corrosion every where.
I have a lot of different brands of Chinese scooters here and all seem to use common wiring schematic, even the mopeds. So the Zapino might have same issues? I have the Embi moped and Tank 48 volt converted to 60 volt too.
All using same circuitry and similar problems too.
If you need pictures of what I did I can send them but it does seem to be a simple fix. Bad ground? Defective converter, well that is most likely. Lettuce NO
