Need help with some info please

Im sure everybody is familiar with the EV1 electric motor and im hoping i can get some comparative input as to how to power it, OR a comparable hp motor with a specific amount of batteries. What i want, is to find a motor that produces around 200hp constantly for 11 hours ... if 200hp is unachievable, then 100hp? How many batteries would i need to achieve 200/100hp if i was using the BEST of the BEST batteries available on the market. Also, to even complicate things even MORE ... i want to RECHARGE the batteries, WHILE the motor is working. How many batteries would i need and how many solar panels would i need ... with the solar panels getting say... 50% exposure during the 11 hours of oporation...

i know i am probably leaving out many variables but if you would please bare with me i would greatly appreciate it

Any questions, please ask away

Re: Need help with some info please

The EV1 motor could do 200HP, but continuous is closer to 50HP.

is mass an issue?

an industrial motor that can do 200hp continuous weighs 500kg

200HP mechanical continuous for 11 hours needs ~1900kwh

50% coming from solar, means solar panel size has to be 300kw or 1'500'000 sq M of solar (or 13'500'000 sq ft)

battery capacity would be usable 950kwh

in daily use, LiFePO4 would be best so nominal capacity needs to be 1100kwh to allow some margin
That's 11'000kg

what are you planning on powering?

Yes, this is the first question that came to my mind, to understand the background of this rather grand sounding project?

Re: Need help with some info please

Thanks for your replies...

Yes mass IS an issue, BUT 500kg is not. Something that weighs 500kg and is below 1 cubic meter would be just fine for my application. As for having so many solar panels would probably be hard to accept. obviously they are expensive and i only have about 500sq ft usable space to work with ... That being said ... WITH 500 sqft of the best solar panels available, how much power could i generate with 75% exposure during an 11 hour period. my application involves heavy equipment but is basically just an idea that i have that is probably generated from my sheer ignorance of electricity. thanks again for all your help

Re: Need help with some info please

oops, 300kw of solar is roughly 1500 sq M not 1'500'000

anyway, 500 sq ft = 55.55 sq M would get you ~8.3kw for $11'000
or 24kw for $55'000'000 (triple junction cells)

by 75% exposure what do you mean exaclty?

That you are getting 1kw/sq M of solar insolation (also known as 1 sun conditions) for ~8 hours out of the 11?

5.5 hours a day is the best you would normally get

have you got much wind where you are planning on doing this?

Re: Need help with some info please

yes plenty of wind but i wanted to just stick to solar/battery/electric motor...

say i wanted to run a water pump during the day using the EV1 motor ... how many of the best batteries and solar panels to keep those batteries charged so operation could continue for 12 hours

Probably the expert in using EV1 motors would be Lightning Motorcycles - Richard Hatfield - or one of the people who helped him build the race bike they ran during 2009-2010. They nearly set the land speed record for electric motorcycles that year with an EV1 motor.

I suppose you may already have one of the motors, and that it is rescued from an GM S10 electric?

One thing I recall is the motors have two cooling systems .. but Richard has all the ins and outs of using it. However, for his current race bikes he's working with motors from Remy that are a lot smaller and more powerful.
