Bionx 250 not charging

My Bionx 250 LI is a few months old with very little use. It has not yet run dead but when it is unwilling to charge. It shows 1 bar on the screen. When I try to charge the light goes from yellow to green in about 2 seconds. I tied the battery recovery with no luck. I did notice that over the past few weeks while not in use it would on occasion beep in the garage. Perhaps it was trying to tell me something? Any suggestions as to what might be a home fix at this point or do I need to ship it to the dealer (out of state)?

Re: Bionx 250 not charging

Yes, the beeping in the garage meant it needed to be charged. Now the voltage is probably too low for the charger to recognize it properly.

One solution to this I have seen (but not tried personally) is actually to get the voltage up enough to allow the charger to work properly. If you can get the system to power up at all, put it in generate mode (opposite of assist) and hand crank it or pedal it on a trainer -- for a while -- to try and boost the level of charge in the battery to the point where your charger will recognize it. I've seen a couple of reports of this working well.

Re: Bionx 250 not charging

If you are in the USA, check that your battery charger is set for 115v. There is a switch at one end of the charger that allows the user to change the input voltage from 115v to 230v. Your switch may be in the wrong position and will not initiate the charge cycle. If this is the case, use a paperclip or tip of a pen to slide the switch down to the 115v position. Hope that's all it is.

Re: Bionx 250 not charging

I have a 48v Bionx battery. When i try to charge it, it goes from red to orange then it will flash green in an hour. The battery is new but old stock. charger is new. when i put battery into bike. the display lights up and i have around 23% charge. from reading the menu. flashing green light means 'over charge' and needs to go back to bionx. i am in UK and bionx dealers are not great

Re: Bionx 250 not charging

Hello Francisc - From what you describe it sounds as though you have a European model BionX 250 with a 48v battery. You stated you have the original 26v charger but that is actually a 26v power supply. All BionX 48v batteries have the charger built-in the battery and the 26v power supply plugs into the battery to energize the charger. From my experience your symptoms show you have a problem with the built-in charger which means the problem is with the battery itself. You need to contact the dealer who sold you the BionX system. They can try to update the firmware but more than likely the battery will need to be replaced. If you are the original owner of the bike it should still be within the two year warranty period. Hope this is helpful to you. Paul
