Erider Maxi 8000W scooter

Hi guys, i'm david from Israel, been following several posts from this forum lately as i planed to buy an electric scooter.

last week i went to try the Erider 5000W and his bigger brother the Erider Maxi 8000W.
no need to tell you about the specifics of the 5000W as it has been discussed already but here is my impression from a short ride on the Maxi:

first of all it's a much bigger scooter, much more comfortable for longer highway rides and generally for big guys like me (190cm, 85kg).
it's very smooth, fast acceleration, no noise whatsoever and it feels pretty stable.
once you stop accelerating it slows you down very fast to the point that you almost never need to use your hand breaks!
this scooter can go about 100Km between charges (at high speed), max speed will be set at 110Km/h probably.
i'v been told that the batteries life is about 2000 cycles, which sounds awesome (over 200,000 Km!), charge time 3 hours.

anyway, i ordered it yesterday, i'm supose to get it in 1-2 months from now.
here are some pictures of the scooter i'v tried:

Re: Erider Maxi 8000W scooter

Now THAT is one of the better-looking Chinese Maxi-scooters! However, are you sure it has anything to do with Erider? Though yes, I can see their motor cover at the back. But this bike appears to have the same rather wobbly front fork as my Thunder...
How was the feeling behind the windshield, did it really shield, or did you get wacked in the head by turbulence generated between the upper windshield rim and your helmet?
And did you check if your full-size helmet fits into the seat compartment?
Yes, the specs would interest me too, plus maybe a price indication?

Re: Erider Maxi 8000W scooter

can't give you answers for those questions yet, i will ask them to send me the specs though.
this scooter sizewise looks a lot like the vectrix, but you can definitely tell the difference though as it is chinese build.
only thing i know for sure is because the scooter is much bigger there is space for more cells, which allow a greater range.
price here is about 1000 Euro more than the 5000W, but in Israel all vehicles are much more expensive than anywere else
so it's probably gonna be a bit cheaper in europe/australia.

i will keep you update once i have more info :)

Hi Folks,

Just to let you know.... I wish you had waited before you purchased your scooter. I know where yours is made and what went into it to make it. Unfortuantely, Mountain Chen has made some of the parts. The rest is made by folks that use to work for Vectrix.

I am the CEO of Elite Long Range E-Motorcycles. www.greenextremescooters.com

We have produced an electric motorcycle that, when ridden at 65 mph a 220 lb person can get 100 miles per charge. It also can be fast charged in 30 minutes by the electrical car charging stations.

Our batteries are made out of lithium ion magnesium colbalt phosphate, the latest technology and the safest battery to date. It has the most power desensity per battery pouch. We have an advance motor that is 8000 watt and a smart BMS from England that send all the info blue tooth to your smart phone or handheld device. It also has a remote lock and alarm system. The controller regulates the heat in the motor so if it reaches a certain level it will slow the motor down until it cools down. It also has regen braking.

We are taking orders now and also looking for dealers. Take a look at our website. Needless to say, we are pretty excited! It is comfortable to ride and rides tight and smooth!

Give us a call if you are interested in placing an order! Jen

looks really good, unfortunately the price is very high, if the Vectrix failed in Israel
because of it's high price, this one has very little chance to do better.

i know you get what you pay for, but for me and many others there is a middle were you have to compromise on some elements. personally i don't need more than 100Km autonomy, my main concern is the battery life, if it's really between 1500-2000 charges then i'll be more than satisfied, if the batteries will die earlier than that then i'll probably be disapointed, time will tell i guess...

Hi!

Thanks for looking at the website. I should be getting word from the battery manufacturer if we get the batteries at a cheaper price than what was originally quoted to us which caused me to put the price so high on the website.

The battery technology that we are using is not regular lithium ion. It is lithium ion magnesium colbalt a safer and higher energy density per cell than what has been made to date! That is why they are so expensive and they are made here in the US. Right now they are only made for the military but our plant will soon be finished in July to start making smaller battery packs for motorcycles and other vehicles.

Our competitors are the Lightening Motorcycles, who are using regular lithium ion Polymer but they are only getting 70 miles on their range, and Motoczyze who are using the same batteris as we are. Both of the forms of the motorcycles are the leg over, ours is the step through. Both though are not getting the same range as we are. Their pricing is between 12-14,000. We have 3 battery packs in the motorcycle with a BMS that comes from England and regen braking in the 155 volt controller. This is a higher tech motorcycle than what has been made before.

I have been very unhappy with the scooters that were made especially by vectrix, X-treme Scooters, Zero, and yours. I know the background and where they were made and who made them. People want to sacrifice a lot to keep the price low and your quality goes down so does the price.

This really aggravated me since I bought one and have always had problems with it. So I decided to design one that was of a higher quality and I carefully did research since 2009 until now to make sure the parts that I was going to use, not only would not have issues but were an improvement to what has been made to date.

I'm just excited!!! I don'tt mind sharing information on what we have done, I just would like to see more people use electric vehicles that acutally work and won't leave you stranded or that you have problems with the batteries not staying charged or not having good customer service to take care of you when something does go wrong!!! That was an aggravation to me too. So my businsess design will relfect that we care about our product and we care about our customers.

Most distributors just bought a lot of chinese scooters, brought them into their countries, didn't get to know how they were made but just want to sell to make money. Then they had problems and didn't want to stand behind their product and fix them.

That is not what we will have. Customers have an open door through out the whole life of their motorcycle. My dealers have to be trained about the product as well as they have to be part of the national Electrical Vehicle Association here in the US. This means they have to keep up with all new technology coming out on the market and the issues.

This business is about filling people's needs who can not afford an electrical car but can afford a motorcycle. They will have to watch an online dvd to understand how to take care of their motorcycle and batteries. What to look for if they start noticing or having problems and what to do about it.

I hope this helps. Watch for the price to come down though. the unlimited addition will cost more because they will be fully loaded with all the options. The regular model will likely be priced around the same as our competitors - hopefully- 12-14K.

I use skype if you have more questions! jgnorthern is my skype name.

Looks nice. Like an upscaled version of the erider thunder 5000 (Sprint 5000 etc) :)
What's the weight ?
I noticed that the front brake seems almost identical to the one on the 5000w. I'm thinking: Will it be enough if the mxiscooter is much heavier and capable of higher speeds as well?

What do you say Jhonny - can your 8000w scooter be stopped sufficiently ?

/K

Well, I haven´t done any emergency braking but for normal use they are more than adequate.
I have driven quite much lately and I have to say that I really like the scooter, power and speed resources are sufficient for my driving. (quite fast) :-)

I have an eRider 8000w scooter and the battery does put out up to 8500watts and I have had to make an emergency brake just last week from 80km/h as a car decided to go through a stop sign. I can tell you that the brakes on my scooter are strong enough to nearly throw you over the handle bars! But my front brake has just been upgraded to a double piston ABS unit. I did not notice any pulsing during my hard brake but I didn't skid and I stopped very quickly.

Hi DuDave,

I'm eagerly awaiting more pics of your huge scooter. That thing looks very comfortable. The motor looks the same as mine (erider 8000w) and I have trouble getting over 90km/h (gps) but I only have 24 cells, so 28 cells will improve top speed. Let us know if you put any videos on youtube!!

Re: Erider Maxi 8000W scooter

Mountain Chen today announced that his Puma Maxi-Scooter has now gained EEC type approval as an L3e vehicle, i.e. a 125cc class motorcyle / scooter. I found it very interesting that apart from Erider and PDT he also cited his brother's Efun as "Make(s)" :-)
2 types of batteries are part of this approval: 20 cells at 40 Ah and 28 cells at 50Ah (I assume both to be CHL). Only with the 28 cells will the quoted 9kW of continuous power be available, and 120km/h will probably only occur on the speedo or going downhill, but real 95 to 100km/h should be possible nevertheless for the big version. I guess the 12kW were relegated to peak power in favour of motor longevity (remember my 5/8kW motor went up in smoke with just 50A of locked rotor current for 2 x 30 seconds...).

Now the sample phase starts :-)

Re: Erider Maxi 8000W scooter

Thats REAL 100km/h - not just speedo? And you have a Sevcon controller in the belly of your Thunder? Using field weakening to the limits? Then yes, 110 could work with 28 cells (also with a Sevcon on board).
However, that would be 110km/h in ideal conditions, flat road, no wind or tail wind. I am still after real 100km/h even with a 10km/h head wind or on a slight uphill gradient. Then I would be happy :-)

Well, 97km/h GPS-speed with the small Sevcon (180A), but as you say, the slightest head wind or incline reduces it to 90+.
Can you explain why hub motors are so affected by "Back EMF"? Or maybe all electric motors are?

Re: Erider Maxi 8000W scooter

Looks like an awesome purchase! You will love it. Are they really giving you an 8 year warranty on the batteries??? 28 CHL 50a...very expensive cells. I wonder how they determine the specs that are within warranty? I have a 2 year warranty on my 20 Thundersky 40a cells. They are currently at 12,363 miles and my range is down only about 5% from brand new. I have the 4000li, and purchased it as a showroom display with 14 miles on it for $1900 USD. Steal. And it has been a dream to ride. There is nothing like riding electric.

Re: Erider Maxi 12000W scooter

CHL, you just copied the not quite true specs posted on Alibaba. The EEC certificate quotes 9kW continuous power, which would leave the 12kW only as peak power ;-)

Can you explain why hub motors are so affected by "Back EMF"? Or maybe all electric motors are?

All electric motors are, to some degree, affected by back EMF. It simply has to do with the principle they work on, electrical conductors crossing magnetic fields at as right an angle as is possible. If el. current is run through such an electrical conductor the magnetic field it is situated in is warped in a way that either pulls or pushes the conductor out of it.
But at all times (apart from locked motor) also the opposite is true: if an electrical conductor moves through a magnetic field in a perpendicular manner a voltage is induced in the conducter, thus either causing a current to flow when an a electrical circuit is completed (it is a generator then) or reducing the current being pushed through the conductor by an external power source such as a battery. The latter is called "back electromotive force" and will eventually be so high that the induced voltage completely counters the voltage applied from outside, only allowing a tiny current to flow which is necessary to counter friction and drag of the freely turning motor. If the motor is then turned even faster, for instance when riding down a steep hill, then, even at full "throttle", i.e. maximum battery voltage, the induced counter voltage will become higher than the battery voltage and the current will flow in the reverse direction into the battery. So this form of recuperation is possible even at full throttle :-)
Synchronous permanent magnet motors such as our hub motors are rather proportional in their back-EMF behaviour. Inductive motors may suffer less from this phenomenon, but it is still there whenever an electrical conductor passes through a magnetic field in a more or less perpendicular fashion.
Back-EMF can be alleviated some by field weakening, which is easiest to achieve in separately excited motors that have electromagnets instead of permanent ones. At high RPM the exciter current can be reduced, thus weakening the magnetic field, and thus also in effect reducing the induced voltage. But it also reduces torque, which must be countered by driving higher currents through the stator coils, thus reducing the motor efficiency at high rpm, while at the same time enabling higher rpm to be reached with a given battery voltage.

What Sevcon's and others' vector controllers do for achieving a kind of field weaking effect at high rpm even with permanent magnet motors is basically sending current spikes through stator coils around the comutation points (thus being unable to influence motor torque at this moment) that induce a strong electrical current in the permant magnets themselves, which in turn temporarily counters and thus decreases the strength of the PM field. The rest of the process is the same as in separately excited motors, but with the additional downside of instead of saving on rotor electromagnet current having to invest additional stator coil current that is completletely useless torque-wise. But you can ride a little faster with your hub motor :-)

Re: Erider Maxi 12000W scooter

Damn!! That's one nice looking bike!!

I can get 60km using 24cell CHL 50Ah batteries using 44Ah (3168Wh)

So with 28cell CHL 50Ah batteries once again using 44Ah (3696Wh) I would expect about 70km range in realistic driving conditions. To get the stated 180km I would need 9.5Kwh battery. With a 28 cell 84v pack I would need 113Ah which would need about 28x 120Ah cells.

I know they say 180km at 30km/h but at no stage in Australia would it be safe to travel at that speed, even bicycles would overtake me.

Haha.......You are a big guy compare with most chinese, our testing are based on 65kgs rider. In China,Traffic is so bad and no a open road to test full speed all the time, you may see the problem last year in Guangzhou !

Anyway, even on top speed testing,I think PUMA with high windshield will reduce the energy loss too !

Hi,

I have just finished designing our new line of Cyber Cycles that I think you all would be interested in. It took me 2 years to get it finished. But here it is. IT's called the NIGHT PHANTOM

BD8000A red with black.jpgBD8000A red with black.jpg

Here are the specifications:

The first 25 will be the Limited Addition. So far, there hasn't been a motor/scooter made like this one, with all additions, to date.

The White Night: Black/White
The Night Phantom: Black/Dark Red
The Ecipse: Black/Silver
The Shadow: Black/Maroon
The Original: Night Hawk

I have 2 types of motor-scooters, 6000 watt motor and an 8000 watt motor.

6000: Speed up to 70 mph, distance: up to 70-75 miles
8000: Speed up to 80 mph, distance at 60 mph can reach up to 75-85 miles. At 45 mph reach up to 110 miles, depending on weight of rider and type of road.

For each of those, I have 3 models of motor-scooters.

1 Basic no accessories $8,999.00
2 Some accessories price depends on what you choose
3 Fully loaded $9,999.00 (Approximately)

All Night Phantoms come with 2 year warranty for all parts including batteries. Most companies will only warranty the batteries for one year.

The Night Phantom has the capability:

1. To be "quick charged" by a level 2 charging station for cars. Take about 30 minutes instead of 4-5 hours.
2. It has a monitoring system that will give you the latest information of the health of your batteries, controller and motor. This is separate from the BMS. This can be sent to your android cell phone through wifi or to your computer.
3. It will automatically log on to the nearest WIFI, so our technicians can trouble shoot if any problems arise with the batteries, motor, controller to tell you what is wrong with it, regardless of where the bike is located.
3. Remote control alarm system.
4. Full sound system, by the monitoring system, bluetooth to your helmet
5. Option for cell phone holder for your GPS system and cell phone.
6. Outlet for charging cell phone
7. Regenerative braking - charge batteries while slowing down and braking.
8. Running lights on the side for visibility
9. Option for extra lights on the front for visibility
10. Plenty of room for storage under the seat, in front of the scooter as well as option for luggage rack.
11. Smart BMS, American made will be added on in Issaquah.
12. Wifi and monitoring system American made will be added on in Issaquah.
13. Outlet adapters, American made
14. Batteries: GBS, the best that there is on the market for lithium Ion phos.

Options: Purchase Jackets with airbags protecting the neck, hips, shoulders, chest and spine. Ask for photos if you are interested.
