Re: Fuel Cell Vectrix, rides again?

Now I traslate for the terrestrials living on this side of the sea:

  • 55 gallon = 208.197648 liters (0.208 m^3)
  • 7 USD = 5,27 €

Anybody knows how much methanol in the original project tank of the V-FCe?

...I want to know the costs €/km (or whatever for you terrestrials of the other side of the sea ;-) )

Why don't they make ethanol fuel cells? I think there is a reason, but I don't know what it is.

This information may be used entirely at your own risk.

There is always a way if there is no other way!

Ethanol can be easily made by everyone...

Yes it is true, ethanol is easy to make. So is methanol, in fact it's easier, and doesn't require any food crops. Just dry biomass, such as wood, straw, hay, cornstalks...

Pretty much any Methanol fuel cell can run Ethanol, or just about any alcohol. However the main reason Methanol is used is because production of Ethanol is highly regulated -- Ethanol is also known as "moonshine", "hooch", "bootleg"... basically homemade booze. In fact it's a federal crime to make Ethanol for distribution, and even personal use is highly regulated. Moreover, technically speaking, any still must be licensed, even for distilling water is large quantities.

Although Methanol has a lower caloric value than Ethanol (24% less).
