VX-1LI++

Hello, my VX-1 need 9,5 Kw/h for 250 km. The middle Speed is 43,7 km/h. 250 km with one Charge. It is wonderfull after 120 km to drive with Top Speed of 110 km/h. After 160 km the Voltage stand by 136 Volt, 240 km it was 126 Volt. Now I need a faster Charger.

Wow, a real-world range exceeding 200 km/120 miles? If VECTRIX could/would do that, and correct the tendency for connections to loosen and burn on the controller board, along with better securing the planetary drive components, they could have a real winner! My biggest complaint is the relatively SHORT reliable range, especially at speeds near 100 kmph, and the lack of a better headlight, with auto-cancel turn signals! Additions I would like are better headlight, heavy duty battery for accessories (20 AH lifepo4) radio, saddlebags, better mirrors with wider view, better handlebar grips, and more durable seat-covers!--I have already ADDED an auxiliary battery for accessories, and a built-in stereo satellite radio with subwoofer, so now I can plug in my electric gloves for cold weather riding comfort, and listen to music and news while riding! Overall, especially considering it is a pioneering vehicle, the VECTRIX is not too bad, other than the battery/range issues!

My VX-1 is build by me with 42 Calb 60AH Cells. Two more Cells than a normaly Li or Li+. 34 Cells stand are on the Bottom and 8 lies over them. There is now no fan build in and so it is very quiet while charging. Perfect is the Peak Voltage. 159 Volt is the Maximum from the ESD-Charger and from the 42 Cells. 3 Ampere Balancer and everything is perfect.

M Eroller - That nimh battery had one cell get so hot it ignited the plastic covers

I have had it happen once, gets a bit messy

Bob - The MC board terminal burn out problem was corrected by vectrix some time ago, although only on new boards. You can use my studs to correct an old one though

Vectrixuwe - probably the easiest and cheapest solution for a faster charger is to use an external elcon/TC charger

you would probably only use it at home (and maybe at work) given the larger powerpoint required to use both internal and external charger at the same time

I have had it happen once, gets a bit messy

So Vectrix had a valid reason to put temperature sensors in the NiMh battery plus a warning light in the dash! However, with so many cells those few sensors could never correctly sense every cell in the pack, so this kind of overheating can happen anyway :-(

Oh well, it was a good reason to convert this beast to Lithium power :-)
