Re: Think City for sale or trade

Can you provide some additional information - real world range, battery type and capacity, charging (120 volt only, or Level 2 J1774 too?) access to parts and service and manuals (they are out of business aren't they?)

Thanks,

- Paul D.

Re: Think City for sale or trade

My experience has consisted of driving almost exclusively in Economy mode verses Drive mode. In warm weather I get 80 miles or a bit more if I keep my speed down. Top speed in Economy mode is 55 MPH. I have opened it up in Drive once or twice and gotten up to 75 MPH, but did not keep in in that mode long enough to determine what my range would have been reduced to.

The range is lessened in cold weather and even more so if the heater is used. I am moving from a city (where this Think served me very well) to the country where my driving habits will change enough that the winter range will no longer work for me.

I am not technically savvy about these things so the following info comes from the manual. The battery is an EnerDel lithium-ion battery. It is 400 VDC with a stored power/capacity of 23,0 kWh/70Ah.

The car comes with a portable level one charger. I have, and am including in the sale, a level two J1772 charger. The level one charger plugs into any grounded 120V/60 Hz outlet. The level two charger is a wall mounted, hard wired unit that runs on 240V/60Hz.

Ford, at one time, owned Think and many of the parts are from Ford models (specifically the Focus) and other cars that Ford owned.

I have not needed them but I understand parts can be acquired through Butler Sales which I believe is located in Elkhart, Indiana. I did replace the tires last week and got them through a local tire dealer.

I don’t know about technical manuals but the owner's manual for the car and for the battery will come with the car.

Think, N.A. did go out of business but I believe it was purchased and there are rumors (perhaps ONLY rumors) of another model coming in the future.

Reducing the price.

Still have the Think City.
I am reducing the price to $8490.
Still less than 29,000 miles although it is being driven on a regular basis.
Make an offer!

Re: Think City for sale or trade

I ended up getting a Smart Electric Drive the three year lease was just $1200 plus $84 a month. It has been running flawlessly and being a Mercedes Benz product, service and parts will always be available. The only down side was that I had to go 220 miles to the southeast (DC area) to find a dealer with any interest in selling/leasing them.

You are to be admired for being an early EV adopter, but lets be honest - with non-existent service and non existent parts, and known flaws (the "MLEC") that can render the car an unrepairable brick, it can't be worth very much at all.

Re: Think City for sale or trade

Are you still enjoying your wind powered Think City?
I just had to replace a rear wheel baring and was challenged with finding the parts, but did get them from the UK.

Back on the Market - Lower price

We are putting this Think City back on the market.

We hate to let it go but our reason for selling is we have a hybrid for long trips and a pickup for hauling stuff. With my wife retiring, we simply can't justify a third vehicle. Nice not to have to buy gas for it or worry about oil changes, but we still have to insure it and pay for annual registration.

It now has just under 35,000 miles (still being driven until we sell it) and our asking price is $6000. The price includes a portable 110V charger and a wall mount 220V charger.

I haven't posted any new pictures but it looks just the same as in the opening post for this thread.

Our location is now in Benton County, Indiana (about 30 miles northwest of Lafayette).

Did you provide the buyer with the warning on making absolutely sure the heater and fan is off before switching the keyswitch on?

Absolutely!! Those concerns were among the first things I talked about to each person who came to look at it. My hopes were to find a buyer already familiar with the Think but that did not happen. I repeated the concerns when they came back and made the purchase.

Re: Back on the Market - Lower price

Hello -

I am selling my 2011 Red Think City with 17000 miles.

In the NYC area.

It's in great shape, and it never gave my trouble. I am looking to replace this car with a larger seating capacity hybrid (six people in the family).

Ask price is USD 6000.

I just joined this forum and can't post anything yet. Just reply to this thread if interested, and we can work out how to get into contact.

Regards

George
