Hi all,
I need my wheels shot blasted and powder coated as the tyres no longer seal on the rims. I have been told to remove the front bearings and I've tried for the last two hours to drift them out but they won't budge. Will I have to put new ones in if/when I get the old ones out ? Its looking like I'll damage the old ones when I get them out. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Just a quick update for you all. DO NOT attempt to remove the bearings without a proper bearing press. As you can see from the attached photos, there is a lip through the centre of the wheel - this will not allow you to 'drift' the bearings. They have to be pushed from the opposite end. Luckily my local garage has a a press and they removed them for me.
I will be buying some brand new bearings and the garage said they will refit them for me.

Alan, I am not sure if I see the "lip". And by pushed from the other side, so you mean it is simply a matter of sticking some appropriately sized rod through where the wheel axel normally is and to push the bearings out? I suppose pressing the new bearings in could use more care and proper tools, just trying to visualize what "proper" removal procedure/tools are.
I have removed the Bearing with a 14mm Expansive nut. Once the nut is locked inside the bearing, a hammer and a small bar helped me to push it out.

When reassembling the bearings, make sure it don't press too much the internal lip, otherwise the bearing will be over-pressured, stressed, getting premature damage.

Look at these bad boys - all shinny and new ! Thanks for all the advice. I won't be putting a hammer and makeshift drift anywhere near these newly coated wheels so I'll be letting my garage press the new bearings into place :-)

Well, I got them fitted eventually. Sorry about not washing the Vectrix but I was pressed for time and I was having problems with the front brake disk (something was rubbing). So it was a quick outside picture then back into the garage.
I now have a spare set of wheels to get enameled - do I go for the stock silver or choose another colour, what do you think ?

I think the yellow wheel are perfect for the blue vectrix. like pace car corvette for (1997).

That blue fairing-yellow rim resembles to the wonderful BMW K1
The yellow does a nice contrast with the blue from the fairings!
The original color, silver, works great with several fairing colors, so in doubt keep them original!
But since you intend to change its color, where's my suggestions:
- white fairing, black/titanium rims
- red fairing, black/titanium/silver rims
- black fairing, silver rims
- matt black fairing, black rims
Looks great! Some high-viz yellow decals to match the rims would look good too, I think. If the "Vectrix" and "Electric" color-matched the wheels.... Maybe someone can photoshop it to see the options :)
